MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Calpine's Cartwright Geothermal Visitors Center will host a Geothermal Education Day on Friday, Nov. 5.


Please come and enjoy presentations on Calpine's geothermal operations at the Geysers, free bus trips to a geothermal power plant and continental breakfast.

Mitchell campaign kickoff barbecue to be held Sunday

HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, Calif. – On Sunday, Aug. 22, the campaign to reelect Sheriff Rod Mitchell will host a free public barbecue in Hidden Valley Lake.


The event to celebrate the beginning of Mitchell’s general election campaign will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the barbecue area outside of The Greenview Room, 18174 Hidden Valley Road.


Law enforcement members with their friends and families will serve tri-tip barbecue, hot dogs for the kids and cold sodas to the public.


A “bounce house” will be on hand for children.


Parking is available.


There is no charge to attend; all food and soft drinks are free.


Alcoholic beverages can be purchased indoors at the adjacent Mulligan’s Bar.

Construction begins Monday on Lakeshore Boulevard

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Department of Public Works reported that construction will begin on Lakeshore Boulevard north of the Lakeport city limits between Park Way and Hill Road East Monday, Aug. 23.


Construction will continue through Sept. 17.


Traffic will be subject to single-lane traffic control with 15-minute maximum delays, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.


The construction is necessary to perform a bikeway construction project.


The roadway will be open to all traffic during nonwork hours, weekends,and holidays.


Expect delays and consider planning an alternative route.
