LOWER LAKE, Calif. – This May and June, more than 200 first, second and third grade students from Konocti Unified School District’s Burns Valley and Lower Lake Elementary schools participated in field trips to Anderson Marsh State Historic Park.

Activities led by Anderson Marsh Interpretive Association volunteers Henry Bornstein, Don Coffin, Gae Henry, and Dan and Marilyn Martin included nature walks, tours of Ranch House & Barn Complex, old-timey music and a hands-on art activity about oak trees.

AMIA has provided funding to Konocti Unified to pay for field trip buses to support students getting a firsthand experience of the three histories protected by the park – natural, American Indian and European settler.

According to Gae Henry, the AMIA Board member who coordinates the school field trips, “local students have been visiting the park on these field trips for many years. The trips help create a respect for the natural and cultural resources found here in Lake County.”
