Carlé is yet again getting involved with the community, helping with the Lake County Community Co-Op. Starting on Oct. 8 two students will be working from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with JoAnn Saccato. We are really excited to be working with such a dynamic group and hope that in the future our school can help
working on the garden by the senior center in Clearlake.
Also, Carlé had a sign up for students that wanted to help serving, clearing tables and washing dishes at the Bass Tournament Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the senior center. The students that have volunteered to do community service have been earning their volunteer hours and have been a great help doing so.
Our school held a car wash at Pomo Elementary school washing the teachers' cars and others that wanted their car to be washed. We raised $181 that will be going to student government for future events. The students who helped out were Telli Clemons, Ashley Weibusch, Anthony Henson, Alyssa
England, Alex Vonrekowski, Bianca Frias, Paul Silsby and Halei Askew. Carlé would like to thank Pomo for giving our school the opportunity to raise money for our student council activities.
On Sept. 28 Paul Sisby and Will McAlister recorded Charlotte Knox a colleague of Dennis Parker at Pomo. Parker is helping Pomo implement a strategic schooling plan to raise the test scores of students. Paul and Will recorded Knox's samples of writing lessons for third and seventh grade students.
The edited recordings will be shown to the other teachers so that they can implement the same strategies.
On Oct. 7th Carli Tippett, a mother of one of last year's graduates, came to our school and cooked for the staff and student luncheon. This is a luncheon where each of Carlé's staff members picks a high-achieving student and takes them to this wonderful, home-cooked meal. The staff goes around the room anddetails the great things these students have done. Ms. Tippett works at the Corkman's Clippers Irish Pub in Clearlake as a chef and will be helping Carlé out running this luncheon about once a month.
“We are very thankful for her time and expertise in the kitchen and grateful that she is helping us out so much,” said Principal Ed Zander.
Carli Tippett might even come to Carlé more regularly to help teach a culinary class and give students
cooking tips.
We would like to congratulate Kodi Burr for getting student of the week. She has done exceptional work for our school by watching over the media room and helping to train our new crop of designers along with running the crew to help set up, serve and clean up the monthly dinner run by the Lower Lake Action Group. Keep up the great work!
Celebrating birthdays this week are Will McAlister, Josh Hays, and Marco Ochoa. We wish them a Happy Birthday.
We also have a new student this week Jakob Everhart, welcome to Carlé and we hope you enjoy our school.
Carlé Gold Level students are taking a trip to the pumpkin Patch at Wiloth Equine Therapy and Riding Center on Oct. 6. The students who worked well beyond what was expected of them will be able to pick a pumpkin, make a craft, take a hayride, ride a horse and participate in a pumpkin seed-spitting contest at the pumpkin patch. We would like to thank Wiloth for having us.

LOWER LAKE – A warm summer evening, hot dogs on the grill and kids everywhere … this was the setting as Principal Greg Mucks welcomed the community at back-to-school night last Thursday evening.
Lower Lake Elementary School was abuzz with energy and enthusiasm as the new school year was greeted by parents, teachers, students and friends.
The staff of Lower Lake Elementary School was obviously proud of their recently refurbished school as they greeted visitors to their classrooms.
The school has not only remodeled the campus, it has also reconfigured its educational program. Lower Lake is now a K-8 school and parents almost universally expressed their appreciation and support for this return to traditional elementary education.
Dr. Bill MacDougall was also on hand to visit with parents and answer questions about education in general and his “neighborhood school model.”
Martha Miller, elementary music teacher, discussed the many opportunities available for music education in the Konocti Unified School District.
Science Camp for sixth graders was the focus for the evening fundraiser. Parents and staff were busy cooking hot dogs, serving beverages and keeping the dessert table stocked.
This promises to be a great year at Lower Lake Elementary School.

We already have two students ready to do their senior portfolio. Ashley Wiebusch gave hers on Sept. 24 and Morganna Grantham gave hers on Sept. 25, which was also her last day at Carlé. Congratulations to both of you!
Our student of the week is a returning student at Carlé and has been doing exceptional work along with doing loads of extra credit. We would like to congratulate Katie Boulerice. Katie made a cake designed as a continent with many geographic features as her final in geography. After taking pictures she shared the cake with the whole school. Keep up the great work.
Michelle Perry-Alden was the CHILY winner this last week. Cierra Tripp's birthday was on Sept. 22, we would like to wish her a happy birthday. We have two new students, Stephanie Cook and Jonathan Truax; we welcome them to Carlé and hope they reach their goals here.
On Oct. 1 Carlé is having open house, which is also going to be a potluck. The students are welcome to bring their parents to get to know and talk to the teachers. The parents can take a tour of our school to see where and how their children are getting their education. We will also convene a site council meeting at that time.
Our principle Ed Zander participated in Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), training in Sacramento. WASC is one of the six regional associations that accredit public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the United States. They review their own schools and other schools in the state to insure strength and the quality of educational programs in schools.
A committee chairperson will evaluate our school on March 22 through March 24. They will come and observe the school, and talk to the teachers along with talking to the students.
On Sept. 24 Carlé had the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test or ASVAB held at our school for the students who were interested in taking the test. The ASVAB test is the most widely used aptitude test that measures your strengths, weaknesses and potential for future success. This test also counts towards your Armed Forces Qualifying test, which sees if you qualify to be in the U.S. military.
It was even available to those who don't want to be in the military, but wanted to have an idea of what they are good at. ASVAB is a timed test that is given out over 14,000 schools and Military Entrance Processing Stations nationwide.
Carlé is creating a team for Odyssey of the Mind, which is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students in kindergarten to college. The team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literacy classes.
At Carlé we are trying to give our students the best education possible and provide them with opportunities that will help them with their future.

This will be the last week of the thematic course, wrapping up cardiopulmonary resuscitation, sex education, ethics and geography.
Several students in particular have really exceeded expectations and really done an excellent job. Kara Boyce and Stefani Conner have been working extremely hard in their career prep class, completing four tasks already in three weeks, tasks that generally take two weeks apiece.
Kara and Stefani are doing great now, and everyone here at Carlé hopes they do this well the rest of the year. We would like to congratulate Stefani Conner for receiving our student of the week.
The Lake County Bluegrass Festival was celebrated in Anderson Marsh on Sept. 12, and just like many other community events, Carlé was there to help with anything they could. Many students not only helped set up Friday, but donated most of their Saturday as well.
On Friday a group of students went to Anderson Marsh and help set up a large amount of chairs and two stages, and helped several vendors set up their booths.
On Saturday, the day of the actual festival, a large group of students was there all day, helping many vendors set up in the morning, organizing recycling and, in the end, cleaning up as well.
All the vendors were extremely thankful for the help and support they received from all our students. Many also mentioned how impressed they were with the students, claiming they worked thoroughly, efficiently and, above all, with a great attitude and smiling the entire time.
Several students – Vince Copas, Tyler Gillam and Lucas Powell – went well above and beyond. They were there longer than they needed to be, and worked so hard than several of the vendors they were helping remarked, “They worked harder than a lot of fully grown men!”
They broke down two stages, took apart speaker setups, and moved all the hay bales. When all was said and done about half of all of our students took part in this event.
Great job, guys!
We asked Principal Ed Zander how he felt the festival went, and he told us, “I was just really impressed with the effort and attitude the students brought to their work. I think it's great to give back to the community like this, and I love that the community gets to see what great students we have here at Carlé.”
At the end of the festival organizers Gae Henry and Henry Bornstein donated $1,000 to Carlé's student council.
The students who went and helped are: Kara Boyce, Amber Bradford, Jeremy Burton, Vince Copas, Nick Ford, Bianca Frias, Tyler Gillam, Derek Grace, Winter Gray, Ellie Hackler, Josh Hays, Anthony Henson, Geneva Hudson, Michelle LaRue, Tyler Lawson, Doyle Lopez, Lexi Nance, Marco Ochoa, Lucas Powell, Brooke Robb, Shelby Saldana, Paul Silsby, Jackie Stephenson, Aaron Trammell, Cierra Tripp, Alex VonRekowski, Allen Weemes, Ashley Wiebusch, Lenicia Spikes, Will Mcallister and many many more.
Our birthdays this week are Michelle Perry-Alden and Cierra Tripp. Here at Carlé we like to celebrate everyone's birthday and to make them feel especially appreciated and liked on that day.
There is a dinner held on the second Wednesday of every month starting 6 p.m. at the little Lower Lake park, now known as the Russell Rustici Park, put together by the Lower Lake Community Action Group.
Each dinner has a special speaker and a wonderful home cooked meal. All are invited to attend.
Carlé students will be there all through this school year to help out and offer community service. Our part in this dinner is being set up and run by student Kodi Burr.
Kodi's crew worked the second Wednesday of September. The crew that worked consisted of Kodi, Paul Silsby, Geneva Hudson and Brooke Robb.
We hope that this next week and the beginning of our full on academic wheel will continue going as well as the previous weeks.
