The moment we thought couldn't come sooner; the moment we daydreamed about every early Monday morning after “one heck of a weekend,” our motivation through every major civics test, and each STAR exam that had us last-second cramming.

With every late bell and every morning bulletin – this moment, looming in the back of our minds, has come too soon.

High school for Candelaria Alcazar, Matthew Brown, Jacob Brumback, Jeremy Burton, Karalena

“Tree Girl” Cole, Stefani "Stevie" Cook, Ryan Cumpston, Leah Davidson, Lisa Davis, Nia Edmonds, Alyssa England, Rebecca "Momo" Englander, Nick Ford, Bianca Frias, Amanda Gamble, Tommy Galli, Derek Grace, Rebecca "Ellie" Hackler, Brandon Haggard, Monica Jackson, Heidi Kratz, Kayellia Lansdowne, Tyler Lawson, Joseph Maninger, Gary Martin, Jeffrey Martin, Christine McQuown, Aaron Mearns, Dylan Nevarez, Nathaniel Oberdorf, Marco Ochoa, Lucas Powell, Raylon Ray, Joel Saldana, Dylan Sheldon, Gerald Stahlman, Tyler Stirling, Erika Streckfuss, Stephanie Trout and Johnathan Truax is over, and on Friday, on their last school bus ride, they had a new destination: the real world where the rest of their lives were waiting.

“These past few years at Carle have been the GREATEST years of our lives, and we are excited to take with us everything we've learned and the friendships we have made along with us on our journey. They say children are the future, and because of Carlé it will be a bright one. We love you all!” said graduates Karalena Cole and Stevie Cook.

“I don't want to grow up!” said graduate “Momo” Englander.

“I wish our years at Carle would never end,” said graduate Christine McQuown.

While the “Years of the Zander” have concluded, and he will be significantly missed, we would like to welcome Carlé's new principal, Dennis To.

“This school year went very fast – it was great. Though it's sad to see Z leave, I look forward to working with Mr. To and meeting the new students,” said Barbara Dye.

Because of Carlé, we all know anything is possible. What we have realized is the very things that kept all of us going, the things that got us here, was our heart, our good times, our energy, our peace, our inspirations, our passion and our beliefs.

It was these significant qualities and attributes that determined what wonderful young men and women we would become.

We would like to honor our teachers one last time – The Heart and The Mommy of Carlé, Barbara Dye; Our “Good Times”' and Simply the Best Principal Ever, Ed Zander; Our Energy and Carlé's First Place Champ, Steve Hammond; Our Peace and The Bee's Knees, Verna Rogers; Our Inspirations and The Free Spirit, Angie Siegel; Our Passion and The Smoothest Songbird, Dan Maes; and last but not least, Our Belief and Our Best Friend, Alan Siegel.

We would also like to greatly thank The Best Counselor Ever, Kim VanHorn for literally ALWAYS being there with a shoulder and a “laugh on cue.”

Without all of you, as well as our friends and family, and if “EddyDidn'tDoIt,” we wouldn't have made it this far.

You are all the best, simple as that. Thank you all for everything!

Congratulations Carlé High School Class of 2011, we made it!

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – The Lake County Office of Education has announced that the 2011-12 College-Going Initiative Academic Decathlon will be sponsored by The Lodge at Blue Lakes.

The Lodge at Blue Lakes is a premier family resort and hotel with a Special Events Center located in Upper Lake on the picturesque shores of Blue Lakes.

The lodge is committed to the development of youth in academics while supporting local communities through the Academic Decathlon.

“We were so inspired by the enthusiasm of the competition for the scholarship awards The Lodge at Blue Lakes recently donated, we decided to continue as a major sponsor of the Academic Decathlon for Lake and Mendocino counties’ schools,” according to Maryann and Peter Schmid, owners of The Lodge at Blue Lakes.

Last year, The Lodge provided college scholarships for top-scoring students at each participating school.

For the 2011-12 competition, they will once again sponsor the college scholarships, as well as host educational workshops for students and parents based on this year’s theme: “The Age of Empire.”

Last year’s competition hosted six school districts from Lake, Mendocino and Colusa counties, with 78 students competing for individual and team awards.

The Academic Decathlon, which has been facilitated by LCOE for over 15 years, is a competitive event honoring "athletes of the mind.”

The competition consists of ten tests, and provides students the opportunity to participate in an educational forum, fostering a deep respect for knowledge, cooperation, and self-esteem.

Communication tests include essay, prepared and impromptu speech, and interview. Written tests include art, music, language/literature, mathematics, economics, science, and social science, along with a written and oral Super Quiz. An optional art and poetry contest is also offered for interested students.

This year’s Academic Decathlon will be held on two Saturdays.

On Jan. 28, 2012, students will compete in the interview, speech, and essay portion of the competition, and over 50 community members will be needed as volunteer judges.

On the morning of Feb. 4, 2012, the second day of the competition, students will take their written tests, and in the evening the public is invited participate in a SuperQuiz relay and awards ceremony.

If you would like more information on the competition, to volunteer as a judge, or to make a donation to the Academic Decathlon, please contact Cheryl Graves, Lake County Office of Education, This email address is being protected from spambots. HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, Calif. – Mediacom Communications presented Bonnie Coit, a 2011 graduate of Middletown High School, with a $1,000 scholarship as part of the company’s World Class Scholarship Program.

The award recognizes the Hidden Valley Lake resident for outstanding leadership and academic accomplishments.

Mediacom annually gives $1,000 scholarships to 50 graduating seniors to provide support for the students’ post-secondary education.

Shawn Swatosh, area operations manager for Mediacom, presented the award during the high school’s recognition program and noted that the recipient can use the scholarship for educational expenses at any accredited two-year or four-year college or university within the U.S.

“As a technology company, Mediacom understands how important it is to invest in future leaders like Bonnie Coit,” Swatosh said. “We’re proud to consistently support local students with scholarship support.”

More than 1,400 students applied for the scholarships. This is the tenth consecutive year Mediacom has funded World Class Scholarships for students who live in areas served by the cable and broadband company’s North Central Division.

Applications for Mediacom’s 2012 scholarships will be sent to high school guidance counselors in the fall of 2011.

Mediacom Communications is the nation's eighth largest cable television company and one of the leading cable operators focused on serving the smaller cities in the United States, with a significant concentration in the Midwestern and Southeastern regions.
