With only two weeks left of the 2011 school year, students are embracing, for some, their last moments of high school.

With Carle spirit in the air, students were excited to have one last paintball trip this year, thanks to Michael and Starr Skidmore. Taking place last Friday, May 27, our paintball club was able to enjoy one last colorful “battle” before this school year concludes.

With not only the honor of each others company, the paintball club were also honored to walk in this weekend's Lower Lake Daze Memorial Day Parade. The parade starts at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

In addition to our paintball club marching in the parade 25 Carlé students have signed up for two days of community service during their Memorial Day weekend holiday.

This dedicated group, led by teacher Alan Siegel, will set up the parade and park post all the no parking flyers, pick up trash all day after we completely clean the street after the parade with a crew led by teacher Angie Siegel.

We will work hard on Sunday with our earliest arrivals showing at 7 a.m. We anticipate finishing our cleaning the park chores about 4 p.m.

We will exude the awesome Carlé attitude throughout trying to help everyone who needs it before they have to ask us. We will all wake up early on Monday to crank it all up again and honor those currently serving and veterans by helping fly the Avenue of the Flags at the Lower Lake Cemetery.

If you are interested in helping out and enjoying this show up at the building in the middle of the cemetery Monday by 7 a.m.

When the flag ceremony is over we will head back down to the park to finish any chores from the day before and make sure the building and grounds are in great shape for the community.

Carlé High School students are about to have a blast from the past! That's right! The annual Shakespeare expedition, lead by teacher Verna Rogers, is once again taking place this year. Making their way to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, seven students will be able to finally answer that lingering question, “To be or not to be.”

“Ashland is the coolest place on the planet! It's always fun seeing new things, and getting out for a few days,” said Verna Rogers.

Their adventure begins June 1 and will last until June 4 (further details to come in the next article).

Our Student of the Week this week is none other than the amazing Lindsay Yaquinto.

“Lindsay is so dedicated to her work. She works very well, and is very mature. She takes her education seriously,” said teacher Dan Maes.

With summer in the air, and 41 creative sparks soon to be spreading out into the world and graduating this year, these seniors are working hard to finish up the year strong.

With 41 Carlé High School champions and 41 young adults to finally be able to say, “I did it.”

Lewis School also will graduate 16 seniors, in which the very lovely student Stevie Cook had the privilege of creating their senior plaques.

Finally, the tastiest and most exciting opportunity of the week came from Chef Rosey Martin.

Chef Martin worked with Alan Siegel and a group of our students during a Soroptimist luncheon she catered about a month or so ago.

She was so impressed with Carlé's students work ethic that she called Alan and offered to host a very special Louisiana cooking class for the students of Carlé.

This amazing event happened on Thursday and Rosey gave the history of the area and how each food she cooked with the students came about. She then went on to cook a four-course meal with the students.

They cooked enough to share with the staff and many students who were not officially among the 20 taking the class.

It was a culinary and historical delight and we cannot thank Chef Martin enough for her kindness and generosity.

Chef Martin offers this class to people in their homes and what a treat it is.

Carlé will bring Chef Martin back to campus to present her with a card designed by Jorge Viera and signed by all the students who participated.

In addition Kayellia Lansdowne will present Chef Martin with a plaque that she designed from pictures taken during the event.
