LOWER LAKE, Calif. – Lake County Community Co-op will host its annual gratitude gathering on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Tuscan Village in Lower Lake.

The third annual gathering marks a momentous occasion for the organization with the formal adoption of bylaws and election of board members.

Members of the co-op are encouraged to attend to help officially co-create the organization and special recognition will be noted for local organic producers that supply the co-op, as well as drop point hosts that serve as the nine pick up points throughout the county for co-op members.

“This organization has helped strengthen our local economy and food system by purchasing almost $80,000 in local and regional produce and value added products since the buying club started in 2008,” noted Co-op Board member Janine Smith-Citron. “Acknowledging and honoring that is so important.”

Community members are invited to attend the festivities, which include a harvest potluck brunch, live eclectic acoustic music by Travis Rinker, the annual report and a vision forward for the coming year.

Co-op members must be in good standing (annual fees paid up to date) in order to vote for the bylaws and elect board members.

Members wishing to serve on the board may contact Janine Smith-Citron at 707-413-9028.

To view the bylaws and ballot, and for more information on the co-op, go to www.lakeco-op.org, or call 707-993-4270.

The Lake County Community Co-op was organized in 2007 in response to community desire for a resilient and sustainable food system. Its efforts in community include sponsoring the Friday Night Farmers' Market, the community garden effort at the Highlands Senior Service Center and the “Lake County Community Co-op Presents...” education series.

SACRAMENTO – If you have ever wondered how you can protect your home and valuables from earthquake damage, “Totally Unprepared” has the answers.

This week, the campaign released the latest in a series of videos showing Californians taking simple steps to keep themselves safe in the event of an earthquake.

Using easy to follow instructions, “Totally Unprepared” show hostess Susan Jekarl shows former NFL star Vencie Glenn how to properly secure his furniture – an inexpensive step that will reduce the risk of damage and injury during a quake.

Having suffered losses in a previous quake, the message hits close to home for Glenn.

Recently launched through the collaborative efforts of the California Emergency Management Agency has partnered with the California Seismic Safety Commission (CSSC) and California Earthquake Authority (CEA), “Totally Unprepared” is a unique and insightful multimedia campaign geared to help Californians better understand their risk of earthquakes and how to prepare for them.

With a bevy of online resources and new videos set to be released each Tuesday through March of 2012, the campaign hopes to leverage the power of social media in getting the word out.

A special 30-minute program is also being aired on twelve California Public Television Stations throughout the month of September.

The Totally Unprepared campaign centers around two Web-based television series created by a veteran of reality television.

In addition, the campaign is supported by a Web site containing news, resources, preparedness tips and regular blogs.

Connect with Totally Unprepared for the latest information and resources at the following Web sites: www.totallyunprepared.com, www.YouTube.com/weareunprepared, www.Facebook.com/totallyunprepared and www.Twitter.com/weareunprepared.
