COBB, Calif. – The Friends of Boggs Mountain will offer a 2.9-mile hike on various Boggs Trails on Saturday, April 14, at 9 a.m.
This will be moderate-level hike on moderate terrain with some elevation and will be led by Darlene Hecomovich.
This is an opportunity to get some exercise while you appreciate the outdoors and the wonders of nature.
They will enjoy the flora of Boggs, seek out some early spring wildflowers and discuss a little local history: who was Henry C. Boggs? John Cobb? And why was Mt. St. Helena named after a Russian princess?
Wear sturdy shoes, dress appropriately for weather conditions, and bring water and enthusiasm.
Meet at the parking lot kiosk promptly at 9 a.m.
The forest entrance is located off Highway 175 just 1½ miles north of Cobb Village. Turn at the blue State Fire Station/Boggs Mountain Forest sign.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – Anderson Marsh State Historic Park Anderson Marsh State Historic Park remains open and the Anderson Marsh Interpretive Association (AMIA) continues to hold its monthly guided nature walks, followed by a tour of the historic Ranch House Museum, on the second Saturday of the month.
The next walk is scheduled for Saturday morning, April 14.
Billy Gear, park docent and AMIA volunteer, will lead the nature walk.
This walk is ADA accessible.
Bring your binoculars and meet in front of the ranch house at 8:15 a.m. for time to experience the early morning wildlife to be found in the Ranch House and Barn complex yard. The walk begins at 8:30 a.m.
Park docents Gae Henry and Henry Bornstein will lead a tour of the historic Ranch House Museum immediately after the walk.
If rain cancels the walk, the ranch tour will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Anderson Marsh State Historic Park is located on Highway 53, between Lower Lake and Clearlake.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – As the number of soccer players in the USA nears 20 million, Challenger Sports, has been invited to hold one of their highly regarded “British Soccer Camps” right here in Lake County.
Clearlake Youth Soccer League has teamed up to host the weeklong British Soccer Camp during the week of July 30-Aug. 3 at Middletown High School, 20932 Big Canyon Road.
The camp will run Monday through Friday and each child will be coached by a member of Challenger’s team of 1,100 British soccer coaches flown to the USA exclusively to work on these programs.
Challenger Sports will hold more than 3,500 soccer camps this summer and will coach over 130,000 players between the ages of 3 and 19.
Challenger’s new 1,000 touches coaching syllabus provides an innovative daily regimen of foot-skills, moves, juggling, tactical practices and daily tournament play. Challenger also weaves lessons on respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship into the camper’s daily routine.
The British Soccer Camp program also provides a unique cultural experience for the players, highlighted in the Camp World Cup.
The coaches use this daily tournament to teach the players about life, customs and traditions of other countries. The campers are asked to make up soccer chants, wear the team colors of their country, bring flags and learn as much as they can about the country they represent.
Clearlake Youth Soccer League is offering “British Soccer Camp” sessions for the following ages:
- Ages 4-6: Mini soccer, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., $84.
- Ages 6-16: Half day, 9 a.m. to noon, $117.
- Ages 8-16: Full Day, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., $158.
Teams also are welcome to attend and receive a week of focused instruction to prepare them for the fall season. Team camp rates are available from your camp coordinator.
Each camper will receive a free soccer camp t-shirt, a free soccer ball, a free giant soccer poster and a personalized skills performance evaluation.
In addition, any child who signs up online at least 45 days prior to camp will receive a genuine British soccer replica jersey.

FORT BRAGG, Calif. – California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) Mendocino Unit announces the establishment of camping fees for campgrounds in Jackson Demonstration State Forest (JDSF).
Assembly Bill (AB) 2351 revised the Public Resources Code authorizing Cal Fire to collect fees for certain recreational uses, including camping.
Revenue generated from these fees will be used to support the recreation program including costs associated with maintenance and improvement of campgrounds and facilities, signage, roads, trails, etc.
It is anticipated that the campgrounds will open in May, depending upon weather.
The base fee for individual campsites will be $15 per night with an additional fee of $5 for a second vehicle.
Fees will be collected at self-registration stations located in the campgrounds.
Fees will also be implemented for recreation events requiring special use permits such as organized bike and equestrian rides and races.
