LAKEPORT, Calif. – The combined Clear Lake/Kelseyville High School swim team notched wins against Santa Rosa’s Piner High in both girls’ and boys’ varsity on Thursday at the Westshore Pool.

The girls were especially dominant, winning 117-32 against a closely matched field.

The boys also won handily 85-49 but faced a team less than half their number.

Girls’ varsity placed first in all 11 events while the best finish for Piner was third. “The girls came through big-time,” said Coach Agustine Merodio. “They got off to a slow start this season but were definitely the more experienced team in the pool today.”

Senior Shao-Jia Chang and sophomore Liz Fricker swam exceptionally well, winning both of their individual events.

Chang won the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, while Fricker took first in the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.

Other top finishers included senior Allison Hanson (500 freestyle, again beating the boys’ top times), senior Lily Rae (50 freestyle), freshman Ciarra Snow (200 freestyle) and freshman Iris Vasquez (100 butterfly).

Research has shown that Tai Chi and Qi Gung may reduce anxiety, depression and chronic pain conditions.

These classes boost the immune system, improve respiratory and cardiovascular function, and burn calories.

Both have also been proven valuable to dramatically improve balance, offer powerful stress management tools and slow aspects of the aging process.

When attending the April 27 event at Sutter Lakeside please use right rear lower parking lot and follow signs to the Healing House.

Kottler offers weekly Tai Chi classes on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the SPMF Lakeside Wellness Center.
