On Wednesday Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced that $19 million he requested for tribal health programs in California to purchase power generators was included in the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies’ Fiscal Year 2022 spending legislation.

That funding would allow tribal health programs to buy power generators needed to boost resilience during power outages.

Thompson wrote to the subcommittee in April 2021 asking it to include this funding in the legislation.

“Our district and our state have been hit hard by extreme weather and natural disasters in recent years, sometimes causing power outages that can have dire consequences, especially for tribal regions,” said Thompson. “When the Tribal Health Programs lose power, entire communities can lose access to health care, including lifesaving medications and vaccines. That’s why I asked the Interior Subcommittee to include funding for generators and I’m glad to see $19 million included to purchases these important devices that will save lives. I’ll work to ensure this funding is included in the final bill signed into law to help our tribal communities.”

Tribal health programs in the Fifth Congressional District that stand to benefit if this funding is included in the final bill include the Lake County Tribal Health Consortium, which has a Lakeport and Middletown site as well as an obstetrics and pediatrics clinic, and the Sonoma County Indian Health Project’s Santa Rosa Health Center Site.

Thompson represents California’s Fifth Congressional District, which includes all or part of Contra Costa, Lake, Napa, Solano and Sonoma counties.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The Lake County Public Health Department is planning vaccination clinics at two high schools.

The first clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, July 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Lower Lake High School gym, 9430 Lake St.

The second clinic will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, in the Kelseyville High School Student Resource Center, 5480 Main St.

Pfizer second doses and first doses as needed will be offered, as well as the Johnson and Johnson single-dose vaccine.

The clinics are for the community and not just students.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The Lake County Health Services Department’s Public Health Division has recently been making safe, free and effective COVID-19 vaccines available to students in local schools and their families, in partnership with our School Districts and the Lake County Office of Education.

First dose vaccination events have been hosted in Lower Lake, Kelseyville, Lakeport and Upper Lake.

Here are some upcoming dates:

— Tuesday, July 6, 4 to 7 p.m., Upper Lake Unified School District students and families: second dose clinic (Pfizer), Upper Lake High School Cafeteria, 675 Clover Valley Road.

— Friday, July 9, noon to 4 p.m., Lakeport Unified School District students and families: second dose clinic (Pfizer), Lakeport Elementary School Cafeteria, 150 Lange St.

— Monday, July 19, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Konocti Unified School District students and families: second dose clinic (Pfizer), Lower Lake High School New Gym, 9430 Lake St.

— Wednesday, July 21, 4 to 7 p.m., Kelseyville Unified School District students and families: Second dose clinic (Pfizer), Kelseyville High School Student Center, 5480 Main St.

As these clinic dates approach, appointments will be available at https://myturn.ca.gov/, and walk-ins are also welcome.
