Yuba College hires new vice president of instruction

MARYSVILLE, Calif. – Dr. Samantha Dana has been hired as the new vice president of instruction at Yuba College and has assumed her role as of Monday, July 7. 

Her appointment was approved by the Yuba Community College District Board of Trustees.

Dana joins Yuba College from Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood, Washington, where she served as associate vice president for institutional effectiveness. 

She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Massachusetts, a master’s degree in government analytics from Johns Hopkins University, and a doctorate in adult and higher education from Oregon State University.

“Samantha’s research in Hispanic-Serving Institutions and her experience leading colleges in Guided Pathways align well with the work our college is doing and the work we need to do in the coming years,” said Dr. Tawny Dotson, president of Yuba College. “Her experience as a former research director will help us use data to better serve our students, and her years as an accreditation liaison officer will ensure she can step right into our accreditation visit in September.”

At Yuba College, Dana will lead all instructional programs, as well as support areas such as the library, tutoring, institutional research, dual enrollment, scheduling and educational services. 

She will also oversee the college’s on- and off-campus relationships with organizations and contractors, including the bookstore.

“This is an exciting time to be joining Yuba College as it grows in service to the Yuba-Sutter communities. I look forward to working with faculty and staff to support growth, innovation and quality in our instructional offerings,” said Dana.

Dana has served at community colleges in Washington and Massachusetts. Her previous roles include associate vice president, director, interim chief human resources officer and Guided Pathways coach for the state. 

She also continues to serve as a grant writer, supporting colleges in the federal grant process. 

Beverlin named to University of Arkansas Chancellor's List

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas is recognizing students for making the Spring 2025 Chancellor's List.

Dallis Beverlin of Kelseyville, California, joins a prestigious group of students who have attained a 4.0 grade-point average for the semester while completing at least 12 credit hours of coursework.

"Achieving a perfect GPA while taking a full schedule of classes is a testament to these students' hard work, discipline and commitment to excellence," said Chancellor Charles Robinson. "Congratulations to everyone who earned a place on the Chancellor's List, and best wishes for continued success through graduation and beyond."

The Spring 2025 Chancellor's List is available online.

All students on the Chancellor's List also automatically earn recognition on the university's Dean's List, which includes scholars with a minimum 3.75 grade-point average.

Yuba College hires new vice president of student services

MARYSVILLE, Calif. — The Yuba Community College District Board of Trustees selected and approved Karissa Morehouse as Yuba College’s next vice president of student services, a role she has held in an interim capacity since October 2024.

“Karissa’s experience in both instruction and student services made her stand out as a candidate,” said Dr. Tawny Dotson, president of Yuba College. “Her time at a number of community colleges, including rural-serving ones, was celebrated and supported by many during the hiring process. She has earned the support of the student services team and the college, and we look forward to seeing her help us to continue to grow and serve our community.”

At Yuba College, Morehouse will lead admissions and registration, Extended Opportunity Programs and Services, CalWorks, career services, counseling, financial aid, outreach, testing, transfer, TRiO, Upward Bound and veterans’ services programs. 

Additionally, she will oversee Yuba College’s relationships with various organizations and contractors both on and off campus.

Morehouse brings more than 18 years of experience in academic and student affairs in higher education, with experience serving both rural and remote communities. 

Her previous roles include vice president of instruction, chief instructional officer/dean of student learning and counseling and director of college access. 

She has collaborated with internal and external partners to reimagine how higher education is delivered, developing dynamic programs with wrap-around student services. 

Morehouse advocates for the creation of approachable spaces while enhancing opportunities for every student who seeks to learn at the community college.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and human development from California Polytechnic State University and a master’s degree in social science from Chico State. 

“I look forward to advancing Yuba College’s work to remove barriers and unnecessary steps for students to successfully complete educational and career programs in our diverse community,” Morehouse said.

Kelseyville’s Beverlin named to University of Arkansas Dean's List

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas — Dallis Beverlin of Kelseyville, California, was named to the University of Arkansas Dean's List for the 2025 Spring Semester.

Beverlin joins a distinguished group of students recognized for this outstanding academic achievement. 

To qualify for the Dean's List, undergraduates must achieve a grade-point average of 3.75 (or higher) during the semester while completing at least 12 credit hours. 

School of Law students must earn a 3.0 grade-point average or higher during the semester to be named to the Law School Dean's List.

"We are incredibly proud of the students who have earned a place on the Dean's List this semester," said Provost Terry Martin. "Achieving this level of academic success is no small feat and is evidence of their dedication and perseverance in their academic pursuits. It is also a testament to the families, friends and mentors whose encouragement and support have been vital to their academic journey."
