Riviera Elementary School announces second trimester honor roll

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Riviera Elementary School has released the second trimester honor roll for the 2010-11 school year.


The results for the grades are as follows.


Fourth grade


Jeffrey Amendola, Jacob Beck, Holly Berg, Logan Blackburn, Dominic Carvalho, Jasmin Clarke, Cooper Dodd, Isabella Domby, Madison Ferguson, Sienna Longoria, Bryce Mandeville, Brandt Mason, Nathan Meyer, Korrey Narvaez and Andre Williams.


Fifth grade


Heriberto Alonso, Jennifer Brown, Tony Bui, Bailey Couey, Quinn Cox, Liliana Gardner, Jason Gentle, Hailey Johnson, Kyle Keener, Shalyn Keithly, Avery Madrid, Max Madrzyk, Aiden McAdon, Cassidy McCoy, Kaleigh Nunn, Kendyll Nunn, Taylor Paulich, Michael Steele, Nichole Stevens, Isaac Vargas, Kara Vartabedian and Matt Wotherspoon.

Caltrans District 1 scholarship available

EUREKA, Calif. – Caltrans District 1, in conjunction with the California Transportation Foundation (CTF), contributions made in memory of Dean Bottini – a longtime Caltrans employee – and the Caltrans Social Fund is pleased to announce the availability of a $500 scholarship.


The scholarship is competitive and based upon the applicant's commitment to a career in transportation, academic record, and participation in extra-curricular or community-related activities.


Financial need will be a consideration but not a primary factor.


Applicants must meet the following criteria:


  1. Must be a high school senior or first or second-year college student from or residing in Humboldt, Del Norte, Lake or Mendocino County.

  2. Must plan to pursue a career in transportation.

  3. Must provide an official transcript to verify grade point average (GPA).

  4. Must provide a description of participation in extracurricular and/or community-related activities.

  5. Letters of recommendation will be considered.


Scholarship applications and full details can be obtained from www.dot.ca.gov/dist1/scholarship.htm.


Applications must be postmarked by April 29.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Riviera Elementary School held its annual Fourth and Fifth Grade Spelling Bee on Wednesday, March 9.


The school is proud to announce that its first place winner was Jason Gentle and the runnerup was Hailey Johnson, both 5th graders in Mrs. Madeson's class.


Both students will participate in the Lake County Spelling Bee on Tuesday, March 22, at Clear Lake High School, 350 Lange St. in Lakeport at 3:30 p.m.

Add a team full of hard working students, four lovely women from the local Soroptimist club, a couple recipes, some love and presto! A tradition is brought back to life at Carlé High School.


On Feb. 28, thanks to Kelly Slater, Marsha Willard, Pam Pitkin and LeeAnn from the Soroptimist Club and their team of mini chefs, staff and extraordinary students were able to share a delicious meal together at the semi-annual Staff-Student Luncheon. This scrumptious meal left everyone stuffed and very pleased.


The students who were invited by staff members for their quality work all year long were Raylon Ray, Brandon Haggard, Arturo Negrete, Tyler Sterling, Teesha Greer, Jessica Boyle, Matt Brown, Arwen King and Nia Edmunds.


Ever heard the phrase, “Be there or be square”? Well, Carlé High School decided to switch it up! “Be There and Be Square!” at our “Nerd Day,” which took place on Mar. 4.


A lot of students dressed up showing off their peculiar and nerdy sides. After some extensive calculations, we all agreed student Raylon Ray from Angie's advisory and Brandon Haggard from Maes' advisory were indeed the nerdyist! And when it came to a quirky game of “Find the Glasses,” Monica Jackson from Alan's Advisory took the win.


Odyssey of the Mind made it to state! The students in the Odyssey Of the Mind club had a very eventful Saturday “thinking out side of the box.” “The Mustachines” reached the state level but have all agreed it is time to hang up the map jacket, and toss in the Kimono. However, this year's team made some amazing memories and awesome progress.


During the Soroptimist Luncheon student Lucas Powell presented Kelly Slater a plaque beautifully designed by Ellie Hackler thanking Kelly for all she does for our community.


Student of the week this week was Raylon Ray who is currently our top key chain seller. “It's always impressive when one of the toughest athletes at our school is a leader. Ray always comes to school with a great attitude and a willingness to try anything. He is a true role model for our other students,” said teacher Alan Siegel.


Another Gold Level trip was held on Thursday, March 10, at Lakeside Lanes again for some laser tag, bowling and some air hockey challenges. We would like to thank teacher Verna Rogers and the incredible Principal Ed Zander for setting up the trip. It was, once again, a blast!


The next day, March 11, was the Silver Level movie. Students who earned this treat by making gold, silver or bronze level with 100 percent attendance were able to get comfy and relax for a day.


We would like to welcome new students to Carlé High School: Sabre Bruffy, Gage Carlson, Shannika Chandler, Charles Drake, Junior Garcia, Raina Golden, Zack Gray, Rober Kanoe, Trauvann Lowe, Cody Perdock, Kevin Rampone, Tamara Reed, Joel Saldana, Robert Shurtliff, Lacey Talley, Martinique Throop and Trever Wilson. Hope you enjoy the Carlé Way!


Friday was the last day of the fourth grading period and to add a little spice to this grading period, a challenge took place. Any student who came to school every day of the grading period are entered in a drawing to win a Paul Pearce high school replica jersey donated by Alan Siegel.
