LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Lake County Chapter of California Women for Agriculture presented three scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year, and it's now accepting applications for scholarships for the coming academic year.

Recipients for the 2011-12 academic year are Lake County residents Gustavo Barajas, Sarah Johnson and Amanda Ray, all Mendocino College students.

Wilda Shock, past president of the local chapter, presented Barajas with his certificate of achievement during the annual Mendocino College awards ceremony last May.

These students all demonstrated a commitment to learning and a desire for a career in the agriculture and agribusiness fields.

CWA is offering scholarships of up to $1,000 to graduating high school seniors and full-time college and vocational students whose educational emphasis is related to agriculture.

Students must be residents of Lake County and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

An application packet must be submitted, including a letter of recommendation and a copy of the student's current transcript.

An interview with the CWA scholarship committee may be requested; and, if selected, the applicant must agree to attend a CWA chapter meeting to describe his course of study and any benefits the scholarship may have provided.

Applications may be obtained from county high school counselors or from Lake County CWA, P.O. Box 279, Finley, CA 95435.

The completed packet must be received on or before April 1, 2012, and may be sent to the same address, marked “Scholarship Application” on the envelope.

For more information, contact Sausha Racine, scholarship committee chair, at 707-245-4787.

CWA is an all-volunteer, statewide organization advocating for the agriculture industry by advancing education, public relations and legislative activities on a local, state and national level.

The Lake County chapter has provided over $20,000 to local students to assist with their educational goals over the past 20 years.
