LOWER LAKE, Calif. – District attorney candidate Doug Rhoades will hold a campaign event on Saturday, Oct. 30.


The event will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Ployez winery, 11171 S. Highway 29, Lower Lake.


Appetizers and wine will be served, with music by Travis Rinker.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – On Friday, Oct. 29, parts of Kelseyville's downtown streets will be closed for the elementary school parade.


The closures will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. along Main Street from Second to Fifth streets, Second and Third streets from Main to Gard, and Gard Street in front of the school.


Drivers are encouraged to be aware of ghosts, goblins, witches and werewolves in the area.


The community is invited to come down and enjoy all of the great costumes on display by the children.

UKIAH, Calif. – The Area Agency on Aging of Lake & Mendocino Counties (AAA) Governing Board will be holding its fall joint meeting with the AAA Advisory Council and contractors this month.


The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, HHSA Big Sur Conference Room at 747 South State Street, Ukiah.


All are welcome to attend.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – A new and generous offer has been put forth by a local area businessman for the Make A Difference Day food drive being conducted Saturday, Oct. 23.


According to Lyle Coburn, the C& G Enterprises costume shop, located at 120 Third St., No. D in Lakeport, will give a 10-percent discount to any shopper who makes a donation of nonperishable food.


The donated items will be added to the Stuff-A-Bus event, being conducted by the Lake Transit Authority, Lake County Hunger Task Force, and Lake County Office of Education's AmeriCorps program at Lakeport Grocery Outlet.


The food donated will be given to Lake County senior centers, food banks and food cupboards.

 

The AmeriCorps Members will be collecting donations in front of local grocery stores from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.


They will be at Hardester's Market in Middletown and Cobb, Red and White in Clearlake Oaks, Riviera Foods in the Clear Lake Riviera, Bruno's Foods, Safeway and Grocery Outlet in Lakeport, And Safeway, Foods, Etc. and Grocery Outlet in Clearlake.


At 3 p.m. the donations will be stuffed onto a bus from Lake Transit Authority parked at the Lakeport Grocery Outlet on S. Main Street.


Make A Difference Day is a nationwide day of volunteering, sponsored by Newman's Own and the USA Weekend magazine.


Lake Transit Authority is also offering a free ride in return for a donation of nonperishable food for the day. Help yourself to a free ride, and help feed the hungry.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – On Friday, Oct. 29, several streets will be closed in the downtown Upper Lake area.


Parts of Main and Second streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. for the Upper Lake Union School District's Red Ribbon Day Parade.


Drivers are encouraged to drive carefully in this area and plan alternate routes if necessary.


The community is invited to come down and enjoy the parade.

NICE, Calif. – The Sons of Italy has canceled the rest of its flea markets for the season.


The group will reopen its flea markets on June 4, 2011.
