Clear Lake Road Riders plan Oct. 8 poker run

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Clear Lake Road Riders Motorcyclist Club will host a poker run and scavenger hunt to benefit Lake County children and seniors on Saturday, Oct. 8.


For the last 18 years the event has been called the Lake County Toy Run. However, this year the group is changing the event and doing it early in hopes of more riders and better weather.


This event is hosted by Clear Lake Road Riders Motorcyclist Club and is sponsored by Hillside Honda, Konocti Vista Casino and Taylor's Tavern of Redwood Valley.


Everyone is welcome – motorcycle, car or truck.


Sign in is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Konocti Vista Casino. Breakfast will be served.


The buy-in for the poker run, scavenger hunt, breakfast and lunch is $20 per person.


After a scenic ride around Lake County, the ride will end at Taylor's Tavern in Redwood Valley.


There will be live entertainment from the Lake County Diamonds as well as raffles.

Public comment period for draft ecosystem restoration program conservation strategy extended

The public comment period for the draft conservation strategy for the Sacramento Valley, San Joaquin Valley and Delta has once again been extended due to multiple requests from the public.


The draft report, entitled “Conservation Strategy for Restoration of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Ecological Management Zone and the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valley Regions,” will be available for public review and comment until Sept. 30, 2011.


The document identifies biologically promising ecosystem restoration opportunities in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Ecological Management Zone and the Sacramento Valley and San Joaquin Valley regions, and provides the rationale for restoration actions specific to each of these areas.


It provides the conceptual framework and process that will guide the refinement, evaluation, prioritization, implementation, monitoring and review of Ecosystem Restoration Program (ERP) actions.


The draft report is available on the DFG Web site at www.dfg.ca.gov/erp/reports_docs.asp. ERP performance measures can be found in Appendix D.

Lakeport Parks and Recreation Commission meets Sept. 8

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Parks and Recreation Commission will hold a regular meeting on Thursday, Sept. 8.


The meeting will begin at 4:15 p.m. in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.


Agenda items will include reports on Library Park and Westside Park, and Westshore Pool.


The commission's next meeting will take place on Thursday, Oct. 13.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Shannon Michele of Cache Creek Catering and Lake County Wine Studio are presenting a monthly food and wine series featuring delicious foods paired with select Lake County wines.


The series is held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the second Friday of each month.

 

The next event takes place on Sept. 9.


The per person cost is $20 and reservations are required.


August’s event featured Thompson Valley grass-fed beef and Yerba Santa Dairy Manchego cheese sliders on a Main St. Bakery (Kelseyville) roll paired with High Valley Winery Petite Sirah, followed by grilled vegetables with baugna cauda and High Valley Winery Barbera.


The final pairing was a blackberry shortcake paired with Robledo Family Winery Port.


September’s event is a Pacific Rim fusion experience inviting participants to put some Rosé in their world.


The first pairing will feature a Thai buffalo summer roll paired with Ceago Vinegarden 2009 Syrah Rosé, followed by Rei Shabu pork summer salad with daikon sauce created by Kathy Suzuki of Kizuna Fusion, paired with Sol Rouge Rosé.


The final pairing of a strawberry sorbet served with a Moore Family Winery Rosé spritzer will complete the three-course event where each serving is plated and presented as a generous appetizer portion.


Additional wines will be available for purchase by the taste or by the glass.
