MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – The Gibson Museum’s monthly Fireside Chat on Saturday, Aug. 12, will host local musician and businessman David Neft.
The talk will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. at the museum, located at 21267 Calistoga Road, opposite the library and senior center in Middletown Square.
Neft is widely known as Middletown’s own Music Man; he and his ubiquitous keyboard have appeared throughout the county over the past several decades.
For this appearance, Neft will eschew the keyboard and instead bring his humor-laden approach to just about everything in remembering the changes in Middletown since he moved here 40 years ago.
He has a lot of “insider” knowledge about what has happened, and why, and will be more than willing to try to answer questions.
Through Neft & Neft Real Estate, he’s collected a lot of insight about local properties and the ups and downs of the market.
As a member of the board of the Middletown Luncheon Club, he knows how much that oldest group in town has done to improve things for South County citizens. As owner of the oldest house in Middletown for a number of years he was led to look deeply into our history.
It promises to be an interesting and entertaining afternoon.
There is no charge, although donations are welcomed to help fund Gibson Museum’s continuing operation and its displays of local history. There will be free nibblies. Bring your questions.

The guild is inviting entries now to give quilters time to complete works in progress before the October show.
The deadline to submit entry forms and photographs of the quilts is Aug.12.
Photographs need not be of the completed project, but give the organizers an idea of what to expect.

Show organizers expect to display more than 200 quilts in this show. There are 19 categories for entries including art quilts, innovative quilts, traditional piecing, wearable items and miniature pieces.
LLQG is also looking to include vignettes, which are small items such as doll quilts, table runners, placemats, small wall hangings, totes and purses.
While you can choose to have your entries judged for $8 or not judged for $1 entry, there is no charge for vignette submissions unless they are judged.
All levels of quilters may find it beneficial to have their quilts judged, learning much from an impartial evaluation. The judges are very positive and constructive with their comments, so this is not a scary process.
The judges will award ribbons in each category, plus ribbons for Best of Category, Judge’s Choice, and Best of Show.
Honorable Mention ribbons will be awarded at the judges’ discretion. Members of the community will give VIP Awards. The Viewers’ Choice quilt, as voted by the show attendees, will receive a $50 award.
This year’s featured quilter is Lynn Wilder.
Wilder has been quilting for over 20 years, is a quilting instructor, pattern designer and is the well-established blogger of www.sewnwildoaks.blogspot.com.
Wilder will be displaying some of her works and giving demonstrations throughout the weekend.
Among the quilt show’s other attractions will be vendors, demonstrations, prize drawings, a silent auction, theme basket raffles, Opportunity Quilt drawing, and the Country Store Boutique.
The show is held in Lewis Hall at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Lakeport on Saturday, Oct. 7, and Sunday, Oct. 8. The hours on Saturday are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
