Police issue traffic safety advisory for Lakeport Unified School District’s return to classes Aug. 11

LAKEPORT, Calif. — As the Lakeport Unified School District is starting classes on Wednesday, Aug. 11, the Lakeport Police Department and school district staff are reminding all drivers to use extreme caution when traveling in the area of and on the grounds of the Lakeport schools.

Officials said they expect heavier-than-normal vehicle and pedestrian traffic near the school grounds in the mornings and afternoons.

Officers will be increasing traffic enforcement in the area.

Also, motorists are asked to please watch for students who may be waiting for buses or walking or riding bicycles to school.

Lastly, remember to stop for school buses when red lights flash.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The county of Lake is seeking community-minded citizen volunteers with an interest to help steer the future of the Lake County parks system to serve on the Lake County Park Advisory Committee.

The county is currently seeking two members, one from District 3 (northern portion of Lake County) and one from District 4 (western portion of Lake County).

The committee generally meets quarterly or on an as-needed basis.

The purpose of the committee is to advise on matters affecting the Lake County parks such as review improvements, maintenance and recreation programs, budget and capital improvements, and act as liaison between the community, Board of Supervisors and Public Services director.

Food and craft vendors wanted for LCSA Winefest on Sept. 18

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The Lake County Symphony Association is looking for food and craft vendors for the 2021 Home Wine and Beer Makers’ Festival.

The Winefest is a fundraiser for the Lake County Symphony and will take place from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Library Park in Lakeport.

Booth fees are $35. Food and craft vendors may bring their own canopies or rent one for $25.

The deadline for signups is Sept. 11.

The Winefest normally takes place in June but was postponed this year to September due to COVID-19 concerns.
