Johnston: Why vote for Susan Krones for district attorney

I have been to debates, read flyers, read information in our local news media and closely followed the campaign for district attorney in Lake County, so I believe I am well informed.

Several issues have stood out, mainly experience and readiness to take the helm on day one.

Steve Brown has eight years experience as a defense attorney in private practice. Susan Krones has 25 years experience as a prosecutor in the Lake County District Attorney’s Office. Plus, she was a defense attorney for seven years in the army.

Steve has never done a jury trial. Susan has done many jury trials including civil and felony cases and, unlike Steve, she has put away murderers, child molesters and violent offenders. She is an avid supporter of Veterans Court which addresses the special circumstances of our veterans and has plans to establish a similar program for the mentally ill. Susan was instrumental in establishing the first child interview center in Lake County for victims of child abuse.

Susan has enormous respect from her coworkers as is evidenced by the endorsement of the Lake County Deputy District Attorneys Association. She has also been endorsed by the Lake County Correctional Officers Association and the North Bay Labor Council.

One last thought. The issue of voting based on gender has come up and on this point I agree with Steve. We should not vote based on gender alone. We should vote based on qualifications and readiness to do the job. It just happens that this time, it's a woman.

Please join me in voting for Susan Krones for district attorney 2018.

Goff: Brown is best candidate for DA

As a Mexican immigrant and a Lakeport school teacher, I try to impress upon my students the importance of treating everyone with respect and fairness. It is these qualities that led me to vote for Steve Brown for district attorney.

Steve Brown’s commitment to equality under the law is what makes him the best choice to serve as Lake County’s next district attorney.

Lake County can’t afford a DA who shows favoritism or allows personal relationship to affect their decision to take a case to trial.

As a public defender, Steve Brown has demonstrated his compassion to crime victims and his commitment to protecting the integrity of Lake County’s criminal justice system.

We need that kind of leader as our next district attorney.

Cook: Brown wants Lake County to be a safe place to raise a family

As a mother and the wife of a member of our local law enforcement, I would like to explain why I am voting for Steve Brown as our next district attorney.

Like my husband and I, Steve and his wife Nikole want Lake County to be a safe place to raise a family and live without concern that those that keep getting arrested aren't being prosecuted properly.

I have been witness to a revolving door of the same criminal element being allowed back out on the street after being arrested for felonies, many of them with violence, and then to be offered misdemeanor plea deals with no punishment that gave the DA a “conviction,” at the expense of the safety of our community. I am concerned that this same arrangement may continue if Steve’s opponent is elected.

I was shocked when I learned of the young mother being killed in broad daylight on the Main Street of Lower Lake, then to have the same prosecutor that is running for DA agree to a plea that would only give the man accused of her death a few more months to serve. All of this was done without even notifying the young woman’s family and allowing them to have input.

I know Steve Brown and I know that he will be fair when it comes to the protection that our families deserve so I ask you to join me in voting for Steve Brown on June 5.
