Boylan: Comstock has skills for the job

As a resident of the south Lake County area for 16 years, my husband and I have raised two children here (one graduated and one graduating this year from Middletown High). We recognize the importance of smart growth and the ability to be able to create and support business in south Lake County as well as the rest of the county.

Jim Comstock supports this same philosophy and, like many parents who have had the opportunity to raise their children in a wonderful community like Lake County, we want that for our children, also.

Having served on the Middletown Unified School District Board of Trustees with Jim gave me insight and experience working with him firsthand. He is honorable, trustworthy, not afraid to stand up for his beliefs (even if they are not politically correct) and hard working. Jim has the experience of working on a board to get things done and has the financial background as well as a deep love for his community to do the right thing.

I am honored to support him and I know my husband feels the same, that’s why when we vote we are supporting Jim Comstock for Supervisor for District 1.

Turcotte: La Faver's sensibility will benefit all

Though I have projects in District 1 and love Middletown, I actually live in District 5 in Cobb, so I don't get to vote. However, what I know of Susanne La Faver is that she is a thoughtful, intelligent, inclusive and kind person. She will bring a sensibility that will benefit all.

I don't know Jim Comstock, though have met him several times. I do know that it was unsettling to find out that he would like to take the Middletown County Trailside Park, 107 acres of no longer disturbed land and turn it into RV parking.

I do appreciate opportunities for growth, but I believe, as does Susanne, that to remove a jewel of public land in South Lake County, is not appropriate ... or perhaps appreciated.

I run the annual EcoArts: Lake County Sculpture Walk in the park, but understand that the only true constant in life is that things change. I don't expect to run an art project there forever. I do hope the Park will be there forever.

Locke: La Faver walks the walk

I write to offer a perspective not on Susanne La Faver's campaign, but rather on Susanne La Faver the candidate and – with your readers' support – the next District 1 supervisor for South Lake County.

La Faver has had extensive experience and established an enviable track record in the agriculture, water, and power industries. She will work to bring jobs offering a living wage to Lake County, and simultaneously work to insure that Lake County's natural beauty and resources are respected and sustained.

Her family was in agriculture, and she worked in public affairs for the agriculture industry. She proposes to maintain Middletown's existing community growth boundaries and develop existing infill according to the General Plan while her opponent wants to increase those boundaries based on nebulous population projections and to redevelop downtown Middletown several miles north.

In her 25 years as a public affairs professional and small business consultant, La Faver established a wide network of contacts with individuals and groups in state and regional business and government. These contacts will prove increasingly valuable as La Faver works to insure that Lake County receives state funding and assistance as available.

In addition, La Faver has worked hard within the community as an award-winning college instructor, on safety and security committees, and in support of seniors. She knows the importance of and will strive to achieve an open-door policy with two-way communications for her constituents, a balance of residential and commercial development, and complete transparency in county government with no county business conducted behind closed doors unless required by law (e.g., personnel matters).

If you have questions or concerns, call to speak with her or go to her Web site at www.susanneforsupervisor.com. Susanne La Faver walks the walk. She will continue to work smart and fight for District 1.

Mona Locke lives in Middletown.

Sanders: Make Comstock south county's new voice

Details
Written by: Duane C. Sanders

It seems that the people in the south county have been left behind, or out in the cold by the county government for a long long time. I believe it is time to put Jim Comstock, a man who really cares, into the mix as our new county supervisor.

Jim has been a hardworking south county resident all of his life, and we can count on him to represent us to fight for our interests. As our supervisor, he will make sure that the south county communities receive their fair share of the funding for roads, parks and much-needed services.

Jim Comstock has put his personal finances and reputation on the line to preserve open space and save his own family's ranch from developers. Jim makes real commitments, and he keeps them. Not just empty promises.

Jim Comstock has earned my support and trust because he will put the interests of the people and District 1 ahead of the county politicians and bureaucrats. On Nov. 4, let us all elect Jim as the south county's new voice on the Board of Supervisors.

Duane C. Sanders lives in Middletown.
