The Lake County Land Trust once again enjoyed a successful fundraising dinner at the Saw Shop Gallery Bistro in Kelseyville, thanks to owner, Marie Beery, and her wonderful staff. E
Eighty people enjoyed the delicious dinner on May 14, with proceeds going to help us operate our Rodman Preserve, continue working on our Big Valley Wetlands Project, and to further our other efforts in preserving the landscapes of beautiful Lake County.
The event raised almost $5,000 for the Land Trust.
The Lake County Land Trust is a charitable nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to preserving Lake County’s natural resources through education, partnerships, and land conservation. The trust owns and operates the Rodman Preserve near Upper Lake, owns the Rabbit Hill Park in Middletown and is currently working on several land conservation projects in Lake County.
The annual spring dinner at the Saw Shop in Kelseyville is one of two major fundraising events for the Land Trust.
Marie Beery, owner of the Saw Shop Gallery Bistro has been presenting this dinner for the Land Trust for many years and her generosity and hard work on this event are greatly appreciated.
Also very much appreciated are: the staff at the Saw Shop, this year’s sponsor, Dennis Darling of Foods Etc. of Clearlake; wine donors: Sol Rouge, Six Sigma, Mt. Konocti Growers, Moore Family Winery, Steele Wines, Ceago, Shed Horn, Langtry Estates and Vigilance; and musician David Neft who donated his excellent piano playing during the event’s social hour.
Thanks also to local media including Lake County News for publicizing our event.
Also, thank you to everyone who attended – your support is very important to us!

Recent ads from candidate Joan Moss have implied that Supervisor Rob Brown is putting the public at risk by his business as a bail agent. We would like to respond by saying that this claim could not be further from the truth.
We as deputies and correctional officers have worked with Supervisor Rob Brown in his capacity as bail agent as well as county supervisor and can attest to his professionalism and utmost concern for public safety in each of his responsibilities.
As a bail agent, Rob Brown has successfully worked with law enforcement to return hundreds of fugitives to justice. Rob has done this at his own expense and often puts his own safety at risk to accomplish this.
As a county supervisor he has supported our law enforcement agencies. In fact, Rob Brown has donated his own time and financial resources to build a building that is now used to interview children that have been sexually and physically abused.
Hundreds of individuals who have chosen to harm our children have been convicted as a result of this state of the art facility that Supervisor Brown was instrumental in building.
The Lake County Deputy Sheriffs Association conducted interviews of both candidates for District 5 supervisor and, without question, the outstanding and most qualified candidate is Supervisor Rob Brown.
Both the Lake County Deputy Sheriffs Association and the Lake County Correctional Officers Association are proud to endorse Rob Brown for District 5 supervisor.

In her May 21 Lakeconews letter, Linda Diehl-Darms "presumes" that a recent postcard sent to District 1 Democrats was responding to a mailer from the incumbent supervisor’s campaign that lists his endorsements.
To the contrary, this communication from the Lake County Democratic Party intends to inform Democrats that the incumbent, a Republican, had purchased advertising space on a commercial slate mailer called "Democratic Voters Choice" mailed specifically to Democratic voters. This mail piece is headed by a number of genuine Democratic candidates starting with President Obama.
The candidate mailed two completely different pieces depending on party affiliation. One, mailed to Republican voters, plainly states that he "does not support President Obama." Why then would he pay to place his name on a slate mailer headed by the president? Why then would he go to the trouble of paying to place his name on a piece of mail that includes Democratic leaders, standard bearers and candidates?
This slate mail piece gives the completely false impression that he, too, has been endorsed by the Democratic Party. This practice is a familiar tool of Lake County’s downticket Republican candidates, in a county where Democrats hold a 13 point registration advantage.
The rights of local political parties to endorse in nonpartisan races is constitutionally protected by a US Supreme Court decision in 1989. The Lake County Democratic Party, the governing body of the party in Lake County, has an endorsement process, as does the Lake County Republican Party. Both parties endorsement processes are legitimate and executed with the intention of informing the voting public on which candidate best represents the values and policy positions of that party.
In accordance with that process, the Lake County Democratic Party is proud to endorse Victoria Brandon for District 1 Supervisor.

I am supporting Victoria Brandon for District 1 supervisor because I believe she will do a better job representing the interests of the citizens of District 1 and Lake County in general.
A county supervisor should not forget who they work for, the people who live here and pay their salary.
Jim Comstock voted for a large housing development outside the community boundaries established in our general plan, putting the interests of a developer ahead of the local people who decided where they wanted growth to occur.
This development – Cristallago – was not in District 1, but this kind of blatant disregard for our general plan could happen here.
The community boundaries were established by committees made up of local citizens who spent much time and energy deciding what made good sense for their towns. A county supervisor should respect these boundaries and not ignore them.
Victoria Brandon has demonstrated that she has the intelligence, judgment and ability to be an effective county supervisor. That is why I ask voters in District 1 to support her and give her your vote on June 5.
Ed Robey was District 1 supervisor from 1997 to 2008. He lives in Lower Lake, Calif.
