RCU honored ICU Day by donating 25 cents per card transaction to local nonprofits each time members used their RCU Visa® debit or credit cards on Oct. 17.
In total, $56,434 was donated to five nonprofit partners across six counties:
Marin: Community Action Marin;
Lake and Mendocino: North Coast Opportunities;
Napa: UpValley Family Centers;
Sonoma: La Luz;
San Francisco: Larkin Street Youth Services.
This represented a 15 percent year-over-year increase, RCU’s largest ICU Day donation to date.
All of the multi-service nonprofit recipients specialize in empowering communities, providing job training, and offering financial wellness education.
These trusted partners ensure access to resources, training opportunities, and empower individuals to make informed financial decisions, ultimately leading to greater financial stability.
RCU also hosted federal, state, and local officials and their staff at its Cleveland Avenue offices in Santa Rosa on October 17 to provide education about the credit union movement and the benefits credit unions provide to the communities they serve.
“International Credit Union Day celebrates the positive impact and unique role credit unions play in communities every day,” said RCU President and CEO Brett Martinez. “We’re honored to be part of an industry that supports financial empowerment and is passionate about investing in the well-being of our members, team members, and communities.”
Credit unions are member-owned, not-for-profit cooperatives built on the principle of “people helping people.”
Credit union earnings are returned to members through better rates, fewer fees, and access to competitive services such as a nationwide network of more than 30,000 fee-free ATMs.
Most credit unions are community based, which means they can serve anyone living or working in a specific geographic region or sharing other common bonds such as working in a specific industry.

Meetings are held on the Fourth Thursday of the month at the Moose Lodge, 15900 Highway 20 in Clearlake Oaks.
The Association is a nonprofit organization serving the combined communities of Clearlake Oaks and Glenhaven on the county’s Northshore. Membership is open to businesses throughout Lake County as well as individuals.
The association’s signature fundraiser is the annual Catfish Derby held in May. Funds raised at the derby support local elementary and high schools, the senior center and nonprofits benefiting youth and the elderly.

Redwood Credit Union announced that Business Development Manager Eric Maldonado has been named as Latino of the Year by the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Chambers of Commerce of San Francisco, or HCCSF.
Small businesses are a key component of San Francisco’s culture and vibrancy. Board members recognize Maldonado’s leadership and guidance to multiple organizations, which highlights the diversity of the city’s small business community and supports the economic growth of San Francisco and the Bay Area.
Maldonado is an experienced community advocate skilled in nonprofit organization, business planning, analytical skills, coaching, and sales. Board members laud him for using these abilities to make impactful contributions to the Latino community in San Francisco and beyond.
“Eric is a person who maintains, creates and demonstrates a culture of inclusivity, equity and support,” says Carlos Solórzano-Cuadra, CEO of the HCCSF. “He invests in the development of small business by keeping the Latino culture, flavor and identity present in his work at Redwood Credit Union, and in his personal life.”

The board said this temporary, in-person position will play a crucial role in maintaining the chamber's operations and supporting its members during this transitional period.
The interim administrator will be responsible for key areas including membership services, fundraising, event planning, and the day-to-day oversight of chamber activities.
This move is designed to ensure the chamber continues to provide exceptional service to its members while the board of directors focuses on strategizing and planning for the organization’s long-term future.
“This interim position is essential for maintaining the high level of service our members expect and deserve,” said Pamela Heston Bechtol, chair of the CEO Search Committee and Director on the Board. “We are committed to ensuring a seamless transition and are excited about the future direction of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce.”
The position is expected to be filled immediately and will continue until on or before Dec. 1. During this time, the interim administrator will work closely with the board and chamber staff to support ongoing initiatives and prepare for upcoming events.
