LAKEPORT, Calif. – If you're looking for a way to earn additional income without selling a product or signing people up to a monthly service, an upcoming meeting hosted by local businessmen Eric Schlange and Don Davis will interest you.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room at 901 S. Main St. in Lakeport.
“After trying this out for ourselves, we've made substantial income and saved money on our everyday shopping,” said Schlange. “So we want to share the opportunity with others in Lake County, because we've seen how everyone benefits from being a part of this.”
A $50 Safeway gift card will be given away at the meeting.
Owners of small businesses, especially restaurants, accommodations and retail stores. are encouraged to attend, as there are additional marketing opportunities for local businesses.
The meeting will only last about 45 minutes and consist of a short video, with a question and answer session to follow.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The California Department of Alcohol and Beverage Control, in a joint effort from the Lakeport Police Department, will provide Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) training to licensed premises owners and employees in June.
The free training will take place from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 11, in the city council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.
The LEAD Program is a free, voluntary prevention and education program for retail licensees, their employees and applicants.
The curriculum is designed for licensees, managers and employees. There is no separate management curriculum.
Benefits of training include reducing risk of liability, including criminal (court action), civil (lawsuit) and administrative (ABC accusation).
The Three Strikes Law (effective 1/1/1995) requires revocation of an ABC license if an establishment has three violations within three years (of selling alcohol to, or permitting consumption of alcohol by a minor). LEAD Training can help reduce the risk of license revocation.
The training also can possibly reduce insurance premiums and provides ways to deal with difficult situations
This project is part of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s Minor Decoy/Shoulder Tap Grant Project, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Participation is limited to 50 persons per class.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – A Carmichael woman hit it big at a local casino on Thursday.
The woman, identified only by her first name of Sandra, won $2,095,598.94 on the “Wheel of Fortune Big Money” slot machine at Konocti Vista Casino on Thursday afternoon, the casino reported.
It's the largest jackpot that Konocti Vista Casino has had since opening in 1994.
The winning machine is a wide area progressive and a favorite of players at Konocti Vista Casino. It was designed and developed by IGT.
Konocti Vista Casino is owned and operated by the Big Valley Rancheria.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County business owners and tourism professionals will have an exciting opportunity to learn, network and be inspired in a new monthly workshop series to be held throughout the summer.
The first workshop in the series will be held on Thursday, May 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at The Lodge at Blue Lakes, located at 5135 W. Highway 20.
The event will feature two informative segments: “Why Customers Can't Find You and How to Fix That for Free,” plus a feature presentation on “Lake County Rising,” an informative look at the growth and uniqueness of Lake County as a wine region, presented by the Lake County Winegrape Commission.
Scrumptious appetizers will be presented by the executive chef at The Lodge at Blue Lakes. Local wine tastings will be offered by Wildhurst Vineyards and Shannon Ridge Vineyards.
Guests will be entertained by the musical stylings of David Neft on piano beginning at 5 p.m.
The kickoff of this event is designed to coincide with National Travel and Tourism Week, which is May 5-13, 2012.
The event is hosted by Peter and Maryann Schmid, owners of The Lodge at Blue Lakes, and presented in collaboration with the Lake County Marketing and Economic Development Program and the Lake County Chamber of Commerce.
Future monthly workshops will be held on June 14, July 12, Aug. 9 and Sept. 13; locations and topics to be announced.
Each workshop will feature two segments – one focusing on specific ways to affordably grow a tourism-related business and one highlighting specific attractions that make Lake County a desirable visitor destination.
Tourism and hospitality professionals involved in all areas of Lake County’s tourism industry – lodging, events, dining, attractions, tasting rooms, galleries, shops, activities, tours and more – are encouraged to attend.
