LAKEPORT, Calif. –  Kelseyville resident Tom Aiken plays his Flemish harpsichord at noon Wednesday, Feb. 27, at St. John’s Church, Lakeport, in the first of three Lenten noon concerts.

Everyone is welcome to attend for meditation and enjoyment.

Aiken will play a Flemish single manual harpsichord based upon the “Colmar” Ruckers instrument built in 1624. The instrument was built by Stephen Renaker of Palo Alto in 2010.

He will perform early music for the harpsichord, including selections written during the time the Ruckers instruments were being built through the period of JS Bach.

Aiken studied organ and harpsichord concentrating on music written before 1750 and after 1900. His graduate work was in baroque performance practices with a concentration in the music of JS Bach.

He funded his education by performing in cover bands and jazz clubs, and currently continues playing with a variety of blues and jazz bands in Lake and Sonoma counties. He has played harpsichord with the Mendocino Music Festival, Philharmonia Healdsburg, and the Lake County Symphony.

The public is encouraged to enjoy future noon Lenten concerts at St. John’s. Parish organist Mel Taylor of Kelseyville performs Wednesday, March 13. Bob Culbertson of Lakeport will treat the audience to a recital on his Chapman stick Wednesday, March 27.

St. John’s is the presence and ministry of The Episcopal Church in Lake County since 1877. The church building was recognized as a historical interest by California Historical Resources Commission in 1989. Last year, the church earned an Award of Recognition for its restoration and preservation by the California Heritage Council, California Trust for Historic Preservation.

The church is a visible, welcoming family of Christ, resolved to deepen personal relationships with God. All are welcome to Sunday services at 10 a.m.
