CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Christian entertainer Jeff Nicholson returns to Clearlake Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29, to present two free concerts of “redeemed classics” before an eager crowd at the Clearlake Church of the Nazarene.
Saturday at 6 p.m. Nicholson will offer a concentration on country and western classics with a gospel twist that are sure to get you in a boot-scootin’ mood.
At the Sunday worship service at 10:45 a.m., he will broaden the genre horizon and bring on some classic rock and pop tunes.
Nicholson has been a musician for more than four decades, playing bass with a young Sammy Hagar in the 1970s before coming to Christ in 1979.
He has played with the Darrell Mansfield Band and backed up Benny Hester, Geoff Moore and Idle Cure in the years that followed as a Christian.
Nicholson also is a familiar resource of musical reviews and information at www.HollywoodJesus.com , created by David Bruce.
Today Nicholson redeems the classics, the songs we all grew up with that keep us vibrant and alive, that often trigger fond memories and recall important moments of our lives but don’t, necessarily, broadcast a lyric that places God at the center of our lives.
“Legally, it’s called a parody,” he said, “but I ain’t no Weird Al Yankovic.”
He has redeemed hundreds of songs in every conceivable genre blending his passions for music and Christ. Several times a year he tours the country performing at churches and auditoriums, and bringing a gospel message in song.
“On his first visit Jeff was a pleasant surprise,” said Nazarene Pastor Richard Bean. “This visit he is an anticipated joy. There is a lot of excitement for this weekend. The songs Jeff brings to his performances already stir emotions. The redeemed lyrics bring a higher purpose. It’s a win-win.”
Both concerts are open to the public and offer free admission. An offering will be requested during the performance.
The Clearlake Church of the Nazarene is located at 15917 Olympic Drive, at Highway 53, in Clearlake.
