MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Eric Leber and Clovice Lewis are presenting a series of special performances of poetry by the 13th century poet known as Rumi set to music by Lewis.
The Leber-Lewis duet concert is called “Rumerice” and will be performed at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, at the Middletown Community United Methodist Church.
Rumi, the concert's featured author, was born in 1207 and was a Persian spiritual teacher and Sufi mystic.
He lived most of his life in Konya, present day Turkey, and died in 1273 AD.
His shrine remains a place of pilgrimage for thousands of people each month.
Rumi's poetry continues to resonate and transcend religious, national and ethnic borders. His voluminous works are widely read in the original Persian and translated into many languages.
Eric Leber is the reader in the concert and is known in Lake County as a teacher of T’ai Chi Ch’uan and a writer of poetry.
Clovice Lewis is the principal chair cellist in the Ukiah Symphony Orchestra, an award winning composer, whose music is performed by many orchestras and professional ensembles around the nation.
“Rumerice” is a free concert, donations will be accepted to fund the Shoes for School Children Program. The concert begins at 1 p.m. and all are welcome.
