How to resolve AdBlock issue? MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Women and pastors of Lake County are invited by Lake County Church Women United to celebrate the 2011 World Day of Prayer on Saturday, March 5, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Middletown Community United Methodist Church.
The church is located at the corner of Washington and Armstrong, one block off Calistoga Street east of the Middletown Post Office.
World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement begun by Christian women of many traditions who come together each year to observe a common day of prayer on the first Friday in March.
However, in Lake County, they have chosen the first Saturday in March to also include working women.
Offerings collected at World Day of Prayer services will address environmental issues, drug consumption and trafficking problems as they directly affect women and children around the world.
Each year a special program is developed by women from different countries to be presented worldwide.
The 2011 program is designed by the women of Chile in South America and features readings are from Deuteronomy 8:7-10 and I Kings 17:8 -16 with the theme, “How many loaves have you?”
The commemoration also asks participants to meditate on the questions, “What are your gifts? What can you share?”
This year's Lake County presentation will be by Middletown United Methodist Women.
More than three million people worldwide will be praying and worshiping together during this annual day of prayer, using a service prepared by Christian women in Chile.
Church Women United is an international ecumenical Christian women’s movement representing Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other Christian women.
This organization has more than 1,200 local and state units in the United States and Puerto Rico.
CWU's members represent 26 supporting denominations and organizations.
Everyone attending is asked to gather in the Methodist Social Hall between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. for a social time with the program “How many loaves have you?” beginning at 11:00 am in the sanctuary.
At noon, a lunch will be served with a requested $2.50 donation.
If there are two or more persons from a church attending, please RSVP by calling 707-295-7174. If four or more persons from a church are attending, please bring a dessert and a salad that serves six or more persons.
At 12:30 p.m. Church Women United will hold its meeting to have updates on the Natalie Mitchell Shoe Fund (a program to provide vouchers for needy Lake County school children with shoes and socks) and activities of the Lake County Churches.
CUW of Lake County also is a member of The International Fellowship of the Least Coin (FLC) is a worldwide ecumenical movement of prayer for peace and reconciliation.
Persons in this movement make a commitment to spend time in prayer, and to uphold in prayer others who are victims of jealousy, hatred, violence and injustice.
Every time one prays, she sets aside a “least coin” of her currency as a tangible token of her prayer. CWU is the custodian for FLC offerings in the United States.”
