HVL Niners reports on July 29 sweeps competition

HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE, Calif. – The HVL Men's Niners Golf Club held a sweeps competition on July 29.


The results were:


  • First flight: Dave Mann tied for the low net of the day at 31, Joe Vallee was second with 33, and Rick Canevari and Rick Conrad tied for third at 34.

  • Second flight: Jim Cary and Mike Casolo tied for first with 35, and John Jones had 36.

  • Third flight: Bob Sclosser tied for low net of the day, 31, while Doug Carter, Bill Ferris and Phil Tyler tied for second with 35.

  • Fourth flight: Jay Hodges and Bill Lyon tied for first at 34, and Gary Pickrell and Ed Carver tied for third with 35.


Closest to the par 3 pins were Arch Madsen and Joe Vallee.


Mike Riley scored the only chip-in of the day.


Forty-two men participated in this event.

20th Annual St. Helena Hospital Golf Tournament tees off Aug. 30

ST. HELENA, Calif. – Tee up for a good cause on Aug. 30 at St. Helena Hospital’s 20th annual Harvest Invitational Golf Tournament held at the Napa Valley Country Club.


Registration is now open through Aug. 27. Tournament sponsorships also are available.

 

Tournament proceeds support continuing education for hospital medical staff working in cardiovascular programs, helping to ensure that the latest treatments and technologies continue to be provided to thousands of patients every year.


This year’s tournament features a buffet lunch, shotgun start, plus an awards dinner and silent auction.


The Hole-in-One prize is use of a 2010 Ford Focus for two years courtesy of Zumwalt Ford in St. Helena.

 

The entry fee is $225 per player ($50 is tax deductible), which includes a cart, range balls, lunch, dinner and a swing analysis by golf pro Jim Fleming.

Flotilla meets Saturday

LAKEPORT – The next meeting of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 88 of Lake County, will be Saturday, Aug. 7, At the Lakeport Yacht Club.


The club is located next to the Fifth Street boat ramp in Lakeport.


The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m.


Agenda items will include the flotilla's booth at the Lake County Fair and vessel inspections sites for August.


Flotilla 88 encourages anyone interested in joining to attend the meeting and learn how the flotilla offers training in many different areas including on the water safety, radio communications, vessel exams, public education and many more areas of interest.

Middletown Pool plans schedule changes

MIDDLETOWN – Lake County Public Services Director Kim K. Clymire announced that the Middletown Pool will be forced to change the regular Wednesday through Sunday open schedule beginning Monday, Aug. 15, because school starts on Tuesday, Aug. 17.


In order to mitigate the change in the regular Wednesday through Sunday schedule, the pool will be open on Monday, Aug. 16, and then will open only on the weekends of Aug. 21 and 22, and Aug. 28 and 29. After Sunday, Aug. 29, the pool will close for the season.


Hardester’s Market in Middletown has once again donated free swim passes for children who are 12 years of age and under.


Passes may be obtained by simply dropping by the Middletown Hardester’s Store and picking up a pass prior to going to the pool.


Hardester's has donated $33,143.50 in free pool passes to Middletown children since 1988. Clymire expressed his sincere appreciation to the Hardester’s for their continued support to the community.


Pool patrons 10 years and under must be accompanied by a responsible young adult 15 years of age or older.


Pool fees are as follows.


Children:


Children under 12 years old: $1.25;

Children 13 years and older: $2.


Schools, nonprofits and private group rates:


Attendance of 25 and under w/ lifeguard: $100 per hour;

Attendance of over 25 but less then 50: $150 perhour w/ lifeguard(s).
