Aug. 29 hearing planed on general waiver requests for Upper Lake school districts unification process

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

A public hearing will be held by the Upper Lake Union Elementary and the Upper Lake Union High School Boards of Education to receive public testimony and input from the community regarding the proposed submission of General Waiver Requests to the State Board of Education to waive certain portions of the following Education Code sections:

– Waiver of Election to Approve Unification Proposal: Waiver of portions of EC Section 35710 and all of EC Section 35710.51 regarding election for unification of school districts.

– Waiver of Election of Initial Governing Board: Waiver of portions of EC Section 35100 and all of EC Sections 35101 and 35103 to allow for the appointment of an interim board to serve the newly unified district prior to election of a new governing board.

At the conclusion of the public hearing, the Boards of Education are expected to take action on the submission of the General Waiver Requests to the State Board of Education for approval at its November 4-5, 2015 meeting.

The public hearing will enable the Boards of Education to receive public input on the waivers,  but it is not a forum for public debate on the proposed unification of the Upper Lake Union Elementary and Upper Lake Union High School Districts which has already been approved by both governing boards at the June 3, 2015 and June 10, 2015 meetings.

The public hearing is scheduled as follows:

Saturday, August 29, 2015, 9 a.m., Upper Lake High School cafeteria, 675 Clover Valley Road, Upper Lake, CA 95485.

Materials subject to the public hearing will be available at the public hearing.
