LOWER LAKE – There’s something about spending a day at Six Sigma Ranch that gives kids a renewed appreciation for nature and the outdoors.

As one parent put it, “… attending Camp Asbill at Six Sigma Ranch … opened a whole new world for (my son).”

On Aug. 7 and 8 the folks at Six Sigma Ranch will once again give children a chance to experience Camp Asbill at their Ranch in Lower Lake.

Children in grades first through sixth are invited to enjoy themed activities ranging from a GPS scavenger hunt and hiking to campfire cooking, weaving and nature arts and crafts.

The camps are directed by Rachel Ahlmann and offered in collaboration with Wiloth Equine Therapy and Riding Center, Middletown. All profits will go to Wiloth’s nonprofit therapeutic program.

A stellar group of volunteers will assist with the camp activities while sharing their professional expertise.

On Friday, Aug. 7, nationally acclaimed weaver Sheila O’Hara will teach the children how to create a simple woven project using multi-colored yarn.

Another Bay Area transplant, Karen Turcotte – sculptor, conceptual artist and executive director of EcoArts of Lake County – will guide camp participants through a creative art project that will results in the kids taking home a framed pieced of finished art.

For more details and to register on-line, please go to www.SixSigmaRanch.com/events.cfm or call Six Sigma Ranch at 707-994-4068.

Children are invited to attend one or both camp days. Cost is $50 one day or $90 for both days.

Space is limited; reservations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Six Sigma Ranch, a 4,300 acre estate located at 13372 Spruce Grove Road in Lower Lake, is owned by Else and Kaj Ahlmann. Less than 1 percent of the land is vineyards; the remaining acreage is dedicated as a nature preserve through a conservation easement donated to the Golden State Land Conservancy.
