Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club scholarships available

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – As one of its community services, the Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club offers a scholarship program for qualified students who have graduated from a Lake County high school.

Applications are available from counselors and scholarship coordinators at all Lake County high schools and community colleges.

Students must attend an academic or vocational school as a full-time student during the 2015-16 school year and major in horticultural or environmental sciences, or a related field.

Two $500 scholarships will be awarded this year.

Scholarship applications and supporting materials must be received by April 15 to be considered.

For more information call Leanne Harvey at 707-263-0850.

In the past, scholarship funding has been provided by the sale of Christmas wreaths, which were handmade by garden club members from fresh stock.

Since three years of drought have significantly diminished the quality of wreath-making materials, it was decided to curtail wreath making for Christmas 2014.

Instead, proceeds from a garden tour event this spring will be used to fund the scholarship program.

Anyone who loves to garden is invited to attend the club's meetings, which are held on the third Tuesday of each month – except July and August – at noon at the Scotts Valley Womens Club house, 2298 Hendricks Road. A light lunch is served.

Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club is a member of Mendo-Lake District, Pacific Region, California Garden clubs Inc. and National Garden Clubs Inc.

Jerry Shaul is a member of the Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club.
