Lake County chapter of CWA opens scholarship opportunities to local ag students

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Chapter of California Women for Agriculture (CWA) is accepting scholarships applications from male and female graduating high school seniors and college or vocational students who are pursuing an agriculture or agribusiness program and are attending a two or four year program as a full-time student.

These scholarships are valued up to $1,000.

A few past CWA scholarship recipients include Lake County residents Jennifer Keithly and Lindee Jones.

Keithly, a second-year recipient of the CWA scholarship, continues to excel academically and is midway through her second year at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

Specializing in large animals and food animals, Keithly will graduate in 2017.

Lindee Jones, a third-year recipient of the CWA scholarship, is pursuing a career as a pest control advisor.

She received her associate’s degree from Shasta College and is currently enrolled at Chico State in plant science with an emphasis in crop management.

The Lake County Chapter of CWA is committed to promoting agriculture at both the county and the state levels.

The organization is particularly interested in supporting students from Lake County who desire a career in agriculture in an effort to maintain a healthy and vibrant agricultural industry.

Lake County graduating high school seniors and college or vocational students who have a grade point average of 3.0 or above are eligible to apply.

Application materials must be received by CWA on or before April 1, 2015.

The application and criteria are available at www.lakecountycwa.org

For questions concerning the scholarship program, please contact Sausha Racine at 707-245-4787.

The Lake County Chapter of CWA actively educates their members and the public about matters concerning agriculture at both the County and State levels.

The group awards scholarships to students pursuing agricultural-related education and provides mini-grants to teachers in local schools who are educating their students about agriculture and food.

In addition, the chapter sponsors AgVenture, an educational program for community leaders who wish to learn more about agriculture.
