Lake County residents participate in McGraw-Hill Field Study

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – More than $13,000 was paid out to Lake County residents who participated in the McGraw-Hill Field Study offered through the Lake County Office of Education Clearlake office during the months of June and July.

A total of 127 adults earned $100 gift cards and 11 minors earned $40 gift cards for their efforts.

Participants were allowed 6.5 hours to complete computer based exams in science, social studies, reading, writing and mathematics.

Of those adults, more than 40 completed the additional essay exam for an extra $40.

The data collected from the scores will be used by McGraw-Hill to help formulate new exams throughout the nation.

Each participant also received a gift certificate for one free month of use of the computer lab where they can earn Microsoft Office certificates, improve their basic skills or prep for the GED.

Results of the exams were not shared with testers, instructors or LCOE.

Kim Boles-Cravea is the computer and basic skills instructor at the LCOE Clearlake office. She is credited with finding this opportunity for residents and hopes to offer similar programs in the future.

Upcoming field studies will be posted on the LCOE – Career and College Readiness Department Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/LCOEcareerandcollege?ref=br_tf .
