Computer classes and Certified Nurse Assistant program come to Clearlake

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Lake County Office of Education’s Career Technical Education Department has opened a computer lab at the Clearlake Community School on Old Highway 53 in Clearlake.

This department will allow high school students and adults to access the lab to learn a variety of programs and tools such as Microsoft Office, Windows 8, iPads, computer basics, Facebook as well as take practice exams for the GED, SAT and more.

These programs are available for students to work independently when the lab is open. Headphones will be provided or personal headphones may be brought into the program.

A classroom teacher is available as needed for individual assistance when group instruction is not occurring. Whole group instructional classes will become available in the months to come. At the end of each course students will perform an assessment before receiving a certificate of completion.

The lab is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and occasional Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The cost of the lab is $25 per month, due on the first of each month. The month of May is free with the purchase of June.

Visit http://www.lakecoe.org/programs/rop_in_lake_county for current dates, times and closures.

The CTE Department is also in the process of bringing back the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Program.

Pending state approval, the course will begin in July/August at the Clearlake campus on Monday and Wednesday evenings, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturdays, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Clinical hours will occur at Meadowood Nursing Center.

The cost of the program is $1,700 and includes textbook, workbook, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, thermometer, gait belt, drug testing, fingerprinting, background check and state exam fee.

Space is limited to 15 students and will be accepted on a first come basis. Applications will be available once approval is received from the state department. We hope to offer additional medical courses in the future including medical assistant, home health aide and phlebotomy.
