LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – A Lake County resident will receive the first $1,000 scholarship established by the Lake County Friends of Mendocino College, an affiliate of the Mendocino College Foundation Inc.
The award will be made to a current student at Mendocino College, a reentry student, or a graduating high school senior.
The recipient must attend Mendocino College in the fall 2013 semester and enroll in a minimum of 12 units.
The selection will be made by members of the friends governing council which includes Wilda Shock, Lakeport, chairperson; Gloria Flaherty, Kelseyville, vice chairperson; and Peggy Campbell, Lakeport, treasurer.
Directors of the Friends are Wally Holbrook and Trena Pauly, Kelseyville; Jamey Gill, Cobb; and Judy Conard, Lori McGuire, Cameron Reeves, Margaret Silveira and Rebecca Southwick, Lakeport.
College trustees John Tomkins, Lucerne, and David Geck, Kelseyville, also are governing council members.
Mark Rawitsch, dean of instruction for the Lake Center, and Katie Fairbairn, executive director of the Mendocino College Foundation, are ex officio members.
Funds raised through the Professional Pianists Concert at the Soper Reese Theatre on March 10 will support this new scholarship.
The recipient will be recognized at an awards ceremony on May 17 sponsored by the foundation and held on the Ukiah campus.
“The Lake County Friends affiliate of the foundation was created to benefit students and programs at the Lake Center. We are delighted to offer this initial scholarship to a Lake County resident who will pursue their higher education goals at Mendocino College,” said Shock.
