LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The children’s nature education program at the Rodman Preserve near Upper Lake is continuing on Saturday, Aug. 20, starting at 9 a.m. at the Rodman Preserve Nature Education Center at 6350 Westlake Road at the Lake County Land Trust’s Rodman Preserve.
Local youth nature education specialist, Elaine Mansell, will be leading her Rodman Explorers on a fun adventure where they will learn about oak woodlands and how to detect the presence of mammals.
Youngsters will have a chance to see songbirds, birds of prey and water fowl. Elaine will teach them how to explore evidence of wildlife by looking at holes, prints, nests, scat and owl pellets.
There will also be hands on experiences using a microscope to view plankton from the slough.
Students will dissect owl pellets and touch and identify furs and skulls.
The Rodman Explorers program is presented by the Lake County Land Trust and is free of charge and open to all youngsters age 7 through 12.
Parents are welcome to attend and enjoy a walk at the preserve or sit on the back porch while students participate in their Rodman adventure. Please reserve a space for your youngster by calling 707-263-1637.
