We would like to recognize our gold level students from the fifth grading period. Congratulations go out to Kara Boyce, Holly Brumback, Karalena Cole, Stefani Cook, Jake Everhart, Ellie Hackler, Michelle Larue, Gary Martin, Christina Ortega, Erika Streckfuss and Dylan Nevarez. All of these students have worked very hard to achieve gold level and we are very proud of them!

Gold level students just went on a field trip to Scandia on May 17 and everyone who went said they had a lot of fun and an over all great time. All of these students will also receive hand made items out of our school-based enterprise.

Carlé established “sustainability awards” when the staff realized that students have a hard time keeping up their outstanding work grade period after grade period. The staff gives out awards now to those students who can maintain or better their levels each grade period. The more times you maintain, the higher level reward you earn.

Senior plaques are being designed and pressed for every senior. Student artists in the media classes are creating and pressing their own unique plaques for different graduating seniors and we thank everyone who is putting in the effort for Carlé seniors. We will ultimately post all plaques on our Web site, now hosted by student Joe Maninger.

We would like to thank Dr. Barry Munitz for his generous donation so, for the second year in a row, all of our seniors will have a lasting memory of their time at Carlé.

We have a lot of portfolios coming up! Christina Ortega's is on May 24; Kara Boyce, Jessie Eubanks and Jake Everhart on May 27; and Paul Silsby, Michelle Perry-Alden and Phoenix King on June 2.

Jason Hammond was our student of the week this week because he has been working very hard to make up all of his credits and he has been working with the media crew on rebuilding computers to donate to families and groups that need them. He is currently building a computer for the adult school.

Thank you for all of your hard work, Jason!

Finally, we have about 25 students signed up to help out with Memorial Day celebrations on May 30. They will be helping with the parade which runs down Main Street in Lower Lake and starts at 11 a.m. Lower Lake Community Action Group's famous barbecue will begin at 12 in the Russell Rustici park in Lower Lake. Carlé will be there to help set up, serve and clean up. We invite everyone to attend this fabulous, historic day.

Finally, Carlé also will help finish cleaning up from the parade and barbecue on May 31 after we show our respect to veterans by helping fly the Avenue of the Flags at the Lower Lake cemetery.

All are invited to help out and enjoy this Memorial Day at the Avenue of the Flags. Joel Moore runs the event and all are invited to attend/help out on Monday, May 31, at 6:45 a.m. The group will meet at the building in the middle of the cemetery. Come join us and show your respect for those who have served our country.

Andrea McMullen is a student at Carlé Continuation High School in Lower Lake, Calif.
