Last Friday, April 23, was the end of the fifth grading period! This means there is only one grading period left for our seniors to finish credits, tie up loose ends and get started with our summer!

Speaking of grading periods, the Silver level award movie (for Gold and Silver level students as well as bronze with 100-percent attendance) also was shown on April 23. The movie was “Avatar” and we hope the students enjoyed themselves, they certainly earned it!

On a sad note, our bingo night was canceled. We would still like to thank all of the businesses that donated to our cause: Girlfriends Salon, Clearlake Bait and Tackle, Finest Nails, 2Goombas Deli, the Elegant Touch Salon, Four Corners Hardware, U.S. Cellular, Kevin Ness Jewlers, Aloha Bay Candle Shop, Tower Mart, Safeway, Rays Food Place, Wal-Mart and Finest Nails.

Spirit week went great! Everyone had a great time and really got into the Carlé spirit. First, we had reggae day on Monday. We had an apple bobbing competition and Mr. Maes' advisory won with Lucas Powell literally diving headfirst and grabbing all the apples!

Next, we had an obstacle course with Verna's advisory taking the lead thanks to Kayellia Lansdowne, George Vierra and Ryan Cumpston. And finally all the advisories came together to play a game of fleet ball, with no winner, just for fun.

Tuesday, we had nerd day. We played “chubby bunny” and Bianca Frias won with 26 marshmallows! Itally Heart came in second just behind Bianca. We also played “find the glasses” and Nick Ford and Dylan Sheldon won that game. Lastly, we had a card house building contest with Kathy Moreno from Verna's advisory winning.

The next day we held a race won by Verna's advisory with Keilana Jackson and George Vierra being the victors!

Thursday was 80s day and our first event was guess the 80s song. Steve's and Mr. Maes' classes tied in this competition. Next was best hair and best dress, Nick Ford won first and Cierra Tripp came in second place in best hair while Ellie Hackler won best dressed and Christina Ortega second place.

On Friday, red, white and blue day, the best designed and built recycled trophies were judged. This is

an event that had been worked on the whole week by each of the five advisories. Verna's advisory took first. We held a hot dog eating contest and a pie-eating contest. Finally all the points were tallied and Verna's advisory won over all! They will be presented with a plaque, with all their names on it that will sit on Verna's wall in perpetuity.

Congrats to our student of the week, Cierra Tripp, for always working hard and having a positive “can do” attitude. We will detail all the student council workers who hosted and did the work for each event in our next article along with winners we did not announce in this one.

Finally, we would like to welcome our new students; Ally Bachman, Joseph Maninger, David Spurlock and Robert Potter. We hope you all feel comfortable and have much success here!

Andrea McMullen is a student at Carlé Continuation High School in Lower Lake.
