We would like to start off by congratulating Dylan Nevarez for being Carlé's student of the year! He is one of only five Lake County students being recognized in a ceremony on March 18.

“Dylan is being recognized for his resiliency and dedication to graduating. All the staff here at Carlé have seen his hard work and he has become a role model for all other students. He has also shown excellent sportsmanship in all the athletic activities we have had here. His life story is inspiring to all of us here at Carlé,” said Principal Ed Zander.

We are all very proud of Dylan here, and know that many good things are in store for him in the future.

Lower Lake Elementary School held their talent show in Lower Lake High School's gym on March 5 and all of the students who performed were very talented and it was very enjoyable to watch. Two of our students, Erika Streckfuss and Andrea McMullen, filmed the event and took still shots of each performer.

Some of the highlight acts were Haylee Wade and Jacie Baker dancing to “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, and Megan Smith singing and playing the guitar to “White Horse” by Taylor Swift.

Another great act among many was Robby Folmar singing and playing guitar to “I'll Fly Away” by Albert Brumley. Carlé students are editing the videos and pictures into a DVD that we will then give to all the performers from the elementary school.

The Lower Lake Community Action Group held their monthly dinner for the community and six students from Carlé volunteered to work this event: Kodi Burr, Kara Boyce, Andrea McMullen, Rebecca Hackler, Erika Streckfuss and Paul Silsby all put in long school days to help pull this great event off. Everyone worked very hard with Kodi leading the group.

Verna Rogers, our English teacher, had the kids in her classes visit and then write stories with and about a student from Mrs. Sullivan's second grade class at Pomo Elementary.

“Everyone that has turned them in has done a wonderful job, they are all absolutely incredible stories! The little kids will cherish them,” said the wonderful Verna. The stories will be shared and gifted when Carlé students return to Pomo shortly.

Speaking of Verna, she took her Careers class to Yuba college recently and all of the students had a great time. Students got to sit in on classes, see the workshops and attend a presentation on the college. Students who attended the presentation said they had a great time and were very impressed by the classes and the school. Great thanks to Verna and Yuba for the opportunity.

A state WASC review team is coming to Carlé on March 21 through March 24 to review the school for accreditation. A WASC team can award a school anywhere from a one- to six-year accreditation. We would like to thank Kara Boyce for designing and producing all of the mugs and key chains for the WASC review team. Kara's hard work and talent is greatly appreciated.

We would like to welcome our new students, Matt Brown, Tessa Ketchum, Tiffany Parenteau and Jorge Veira. We hope you all feel comfortable here and enjoy Carlé.

Deserae Shackelford delivered her portfolio on March 11 and we are all very proud of her and wish her luck.

John Watson was our student of the week because he has done very well here and is a great student who will be graduating soon. Congratulations John and keep up the good work!

Andrea McMullen is a student at Carlé Continuation High School in Lower Lake.
