LAKE COUNTY – This Saturday KPFZ 88.1 FM's “The Law Show” will host longtime Lake County Registrar of Voters Diane Fridley.
On June 8, in the frenzy of election night, Lake County news media announced the final results of the hotly contested local races. As it turns out, they may have been a bit premature in doing so.
In the days following the election, we learned that more than 3,700 provisional and absentee ballots are not yet included in the tally.
Although the outcome of most races are not likely to change, the contest for Lake County district attorney could be affected.
With only a couple of hundred votes separating the candidates, it is possible that Doug Rhoades and Jon Hopkins could switch positions creating a very different runoff election in November.
To many the vote counting process is a mystery and hopefully some of the community's questions will be answered by Fridley, ho has been in charge of making sure that Lake County’s elections are fair and accurate year after year.

NORTH COAST – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around Lake County during the coming week.
Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.
LAKE COUNTY
Highway 20
– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Ogden Road to Hillside Lane. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
Highway 29
– Middletown Central Park Association has been issued a Caltrans encroachment permit for the annual Middletown Days Parade on Saturday, June 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A full road closure will be in effect. A detour will be provided, and motorists may experience minor delays.
– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Spruce Grove Road to 0.3 mile south of Hofacker Lane. Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
Highway 175
– AT&T of Sacramento has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for utility maintenance from 1.5 miles west of Socrates Mine Road to the Putah Creek Bridge. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
Highway 281
– North Bay Construction of Petaluma has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for paving on Soda Bay Road. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
MENDOCINO COUNTY
Highway 1
– PG&E of Eureka has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for tree trimming from Ocean Drive to Haven Neck Drive beginning Monday, June 21. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
– Bruce Raabe of Kentfield has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit to install a driveway 3.6 miles south of the Elk Creek Bridge. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
– Installation of construction signs will occur from 0.1 mile north of Navarro Ridge Road to Woodstock Drive on Monday, June 21. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Granite Construction of Ukiah.
– PG&E of Ukiah has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit for an aerial crossing at Airport Road on Monday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Intermittent full road closures will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
– Pavement repairs at Blue Slide Gulch, just south of Westport, will continue. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Mercer-Fraser of Eureka.
– A drainage repair project from 1.4 miles south of Hales Grove to 1.2 mile south of Mill Bank Resort will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Green Right O’Way Constructors of Willits.
Highway 20
– A drainage repair project from Three Chop Road to the Chamberlain Creek Bridge will begin Monday, June 21. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Kapel Construction of Willow Creek.
Highway 101
– A culvert repair project form Waterplant Road to the Haehl Overhead Bridge will continue. Nighttime work hours are 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays. Contractor – Granite Construction of Ukiah.
– Bridge deck repairs at the Cummings Road Undercrossing will continue through Friday, June 18. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., weekdays. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns. Contractor – DeBruin Construction Inc. of French Camp.
Highway 128
– Sherrie Rigney of Ryde has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in Boonville between the junction of Route 128/253 to Hutsell Road beginning Friday, June 18, and continuing through Tuesday, June 22. A shoulder closure will be in effect 24 hours per day. Motorists are advised to drive with caution through the area and may experience minor traffic slowdowns.
Highway 162
– A bridge widening project at Outlet Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays. Contractor – Viking Construction Co. Inc. of Rancho Cordova.
– PG&E of Ukiah has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit to remove aerial crossings at Eberle Street on Thursday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Intermittent full road closures will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
Highway 222
– Replacement of the Russian River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays during work hours and five-minute delays at other times. Contractor – CC Myers of Rancho Cordova.
– Rogina Water Co. of Talmage has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit to install a water line from Sandford Ranch Road to Talmage Court beginning Monday, July 21. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. Intermittent one-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
Highway 253
– Construction of a retaining wall from Singley Cattlepass to the Soda Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Mendocino Construction Services of Willits.

SACRAMENTO — More than 500 law enforcement personnel from federal, military, state, county and local agencies will be running the Special Olympics’ Flame of Hope through Northern California this month.
The ran, which began Monday, lasts through June 25.
The torch will pass through Sonoma County on June 21 and 22, and through Napa County on June 23.
The event is part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, a year-round fundraising campaign that will culminate at the Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games, June 25-27 at UC Davis.
The Special Olympics Summer Games brings together more than 700 Special Olympics athletes from throughout Northern California to compete in aquatics, bocce, tennis, and track and field.
The games officially begin after the final leg of the torch run has been completed and the Flame of Hope lights the Special Olympics cauldron during opening ceremonies.
As one of the state’s largest grassroots fundraising efforts, the Law Enforcement Torch Run has become the single largest supporter of Special Olympics Northern California, a free year-round sports program that serves almost 14,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities.
Since 1995, Northern California law enforcement has raised $9.3 million with the goal to raise $850,000 more in 2010.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run began in Redding (Shasta County) on Monday morning, June 14.
Throughout the next 10 days the Flame of Hope will travel hundreds of miles throughout 21 counties arriving at Davis, California on Friday, June 25 for the opening of the Summer Games.
Every officer running the torch has earned the right to be a “Guardian of the Flame” by raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics.

HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE – A culinary class celebrating the bounty of Lake County is scheduled for Thursday, June 22, at 6 p.m. at Chic Le Chef in Hidden Valley Lake.
In this class, “From the Farm to the Table,” Esther Oertel, culinary instructor and author of the weekly Lake County News column, “The Veggie Girl,” will demonstrate the preparation of a menu based on our local late spring harvest.
Ingredients such as goat cheese, strawberries, olive oil, walnuts, wine, salad greens, beets and arugula will all be sourced from Lake County farms.
Chard and cilantro soup with noodle nests, The Perfect Spring Salad, chicken with mireproix and cream, and strawberry brunch tart with thyme and black pepper are on the menu.
Oertel will teach other classes featuring seasonal local bounty at Chic Le Chef on July 11, 29 and Aug. 12.
