LAKEPORT – Ever hear someone talking about Toastmasters and wondered what it was? Now is you chance to meet the local Toastmasters of Lakeport and find out the answer.


The members of Club 8731 are holding a potluck open house where you will get a brief introduction and then have time to ask questions.


The open house will take place beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at 2150 Argonaut Road in Lakeport (across from Steele Winery).


The mission of a Toastmasters Club “is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and person growth.”

CLEARLAKE – The Lake County Stonewall Democratic Club will meet Monday, Nov. 23.


A potluck will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Redbud Library, 14785 Burns Valley Road, Clearlake.


The meeting will follow at 7 p.m.


Andy Weiss, the station manager of the Lake County Community Radio, KPFZ 88.1 FM, has been re-scheduled as a speaker at the Nov. 23 meeting.


All LGBT members are invited, as well as their friends and allies.

MIDDLETOWN – Tickets are on sale for Middletown's annual Renaissance Pageant and Feast.


The discounts end Nov. 23.


The pageant will be held from Dec. 4 through 6 and Dec. 11 through 13 at Greystone Castle, also known as the historic Middletown Community United Methodist Stone Church.


Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Guests are asked to arrive between 15 and 20 minutes early as there is no late seating.


Tickets are now on sale for the six full feast performances of the 16th annual Renaissance Pageant at the Arts Council Gallery on Main Street in Lakeport, Neft & Neft Realtors on Calistoga Street in Middletown and by phone at 707-987-2653.


This experience enhances the Christmas season and features three-course dining with music drama, dancing and games.


Audience members are the honored guests at the Castle of Lord Greystone. All tickets are priced pre-sale only for $30 per person until Nov. 23 and $35 per person thereafter.


Special seating is provided for groups of four or more. The pageant is produced by the Middletown Community United Methodist Church and community players.


“Greystone Castle” is located at 15843 Armstrong St. at Washington, one block east of Highway 29.

HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE – The Hidden Valley Lake Craft Club and local crafters are sponsoring their annual Christmas Boutique on Sunday, Dec. 6.


The boutique will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Greenview Room on Hartmann Road.


This fun-filled event is open to the public and everyone is welcome.


Handcrafted items available for sale include jewelry, hand painted items, paper crafts, totes and purses, table runners and pillows, clever gourds, Christmas ornaments and candy, origami art, children’s items, knitted scarves and throws, bookmarks and other wearable art. All the crafters have worked very hard and are anxious for you to see their holiday wares.


The Greenview Café and Mulligan’s Bar will be open to satisfy your dining and refreshment needs.


Proceeds from booth fees and general cash donations will help support the Hidden Valley Lake Fireworks Show.


Come enjoy the start of the season, get into the holiday spirit and do some holiday shopping.

UPPER LAKE – The Lake County Wine Studio will host a release party with Bryan Kane of Sol Rouge on Friday, Nov. 27.


The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the studio, located at 9505 Main St., Upper Lake.


Sol Rouge will release their new vintages – 2007 Viognier, 2008 Rose, 2007 Mourvedre, 2007 Syrah, 2007 Zinfandel, 2007 Petite Sirah and 2006 Mountain Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.


Delicious appetizers will be served to enjoy with the wines.


Sol Rouge and the Lake County Wine Studio will donate 10 percent of wine sales and the $15 per person charge from this event to support the Barbara LaForge Memorial Fund, which is providing funds for the Lake Family Resource Center's Freedom House domestic violence shelter.

LAKE COUNTY – Lake County Public Services Director Kim K. Clymire announced that the Eastlake Landfill in Clearlake, the Lakeport Transfer Station and the Lakeport Public Services office will be closed Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27, for the Thanksgiving Day holiday.


The transfer station will be open Saturday, Nov. 28, which will be its last day of operation.


Lake County Waste Solutions on Soda Bay Road in Lakeport will begin accepting refuse on Monday, Nov. 30.


The landfill, transfer station and the Public Services office will reopen Saturday, Nov. 28.


Normal operating hours at the landfill are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Normal operating hours at the Lakeport Transfer Station are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, closing every Sunday and Monday.


The Public Services office will reopen on Monday, Nov. 30. Normal hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
