UPPER LAKE – The inaugural Rainbow Bridge Festival is seeking sponsors.

The festival will take place in Upper Lake June 26 through 28.

The event brings people together through a common experience, involving a connection with nature and valuable interaction with community expressed through music, yoga and healthy lifestyle exploration.

There will be green building workshops and demos, organic gardening workshops and demos, alternative energy demos, yoga classes and workshops, drumming circles, activities for children to learn, have fun and express themselves creatively, as well as opportunities for musicians to jam together spontaneously.

They will celebrate with world class musicians such as Pato Banton, Annie Sampson Band, Elijah Emanuel, Mitchell Holman, Karma, Levi Huffman, Rootstock, Side of Blues and More.

Speakers include Jeane Manning, author of several books including “The Coming Energy Revolution” and “Breakthrough Power.” She will share information and compelling stories about brave inventors and breakthrough technologies from around the world that are green and sustainable. Manning makes the case for open-sourcing clean-energy inventions such as magnetic motors, zero point energy, water-as-fuel and other new-paradigm advances.

Harvey Wasserman, author of “Solartopia, Our Green Powered Earth”, will share his wisdom and vision of making the bridge to a solarized world. Wasserman’s widespread appearances throughout the major media and at campuses and citizens gatherings since the 1960s have focused on energy, the environment, the truth about nuclear power, United States history and election protection. Wasserman is a much-loved and exciting presenter.

The festival is also an intentional tribute to Marla Ruzicka (1976-2005), who gave her life courageously and selflessly in the pursuit of bringing love, compassion and financial aide to the war torn victims of the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.

May her courage, tenacity and love for all people always be a source of inspiration and inner strength for us all as we create a New World, based in love, fairness, wisdom and truth.

Ruzicka was a native of Lake County. We would like as many local businesses as possible to get involved in any way they can to support our local economy, each other, and to create a network in the community which can then stick together through the hard times. Celebrating the life and selfless commitments which Marla lived every day of her life can inspire us all to do our best.

SAN FRANCISCO – Every day, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) meter readers, gas service representatives and other employees enter yards and homes to read meters, re-light gas pilots and provide other types of customer service.

During National Dog Bite Prevention Week, May 17 through 23, PG&E reminds customers to make sure their dog is safe and secure whenever a PG&E employee is scheduled to visit your home or business.

Each year approximately 50 PG&E employees are moderately to severely attacked by dogs. Because PG&E is committed to employee safety, the company provides employees the opportunity to attend a dog bite prevention course that informs them about dog behavior and temperament, and how to protect themselves in the event of an attack.

PG&E works with customers to keep dogs safely away when employees are scheduled to visit their home or business. Customers can find out when their meter is scheduled to be read by visiting www.pge.com/meterreading or by calling PG&E’s customer service line at 1-800-PGE-5000. These schedules are subject to change, so please re-check the day before a scheduled meter read.

Here are some tips to provide a safe environment for your dog and PG&E employees:

– Restrain or relocate your dog when it is time for PG&E employees to read your meter.
– Confine your dog as necessary. If the employee is outside, keep your dog inside. If the employee is inside, keep your dog outside. If the employee must work near your dog, make sure it is secure. Dogs may become more protective in the presence of their owners.
– Post a Beware of Dog sign on your fence or house to avoid any surprises.
– Leave a note on your meter explaining that you have a dog and how it is confined.
– Be sure all vaccinations and inoculations for rabies and parasites are up to date.
– Train your dog to obey simple commands like "sit," "stay," "no" and "come."
– Collar your dog, so you have the means to quickly restrain your dog in any emergency.
– If you get a new dog, contact PG&E at 1-800-PGE-5000 to let them know.

KELSEYVILLE – The next meeting of the Sierra Club Lake Group will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, in the Kelseyville High School Library,5480 Main St.

Marily Woodhouse, the Sierra Club's “Save the Sierra” campaign organizer, will give a presentation titled "Clearcut Nation," documenting the ways that clearcutting has devastated thousands of acres of forestland in the Sierra Nevada.

Although the US Forest Service has halted clearcutting in National Forests, it is still the primary timber harvesting method on vast acreages of private forestlands, where the land is stripped bare by removal of all native vegetation, followed by applications of herbicides to stop natural regeneration.

These unsustainable forestry practices have not only left large parts of the Sierra looking like victims of a loathsome skin disease, destroyed ecosystems, and polluted waterways – they also contribute to global warming by releasing sequestered carbon.

Sierra Pacific Industries, the worst offender, is in the process of clearcutting the majority of its 1.7 million acres throughout the Sierra, and turning many square miles of forests into sterile tree plantations with no semblance of biological diversity or natural habitat.

Come and learn how Sierra Pacific's exploitation of our natural resources is damaging Sierra forestlands and the watersheds they protect – and learn how we can help stop it.

The meeting is free, and open to the public.
