Charles ‘Chuck’ Leroy Manning
1934-2018

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Charles “Chuck” Leroy Manning, passed away peacefully Aug. 22, 2018, in his home in Upper Lake.

Charles was born to the late Charles “Frank” and Euphelia Manning June 5, 1934, in Upper Lake.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Manning; brother, Herb Manning; parents, Charles and Euphelia Manning; and sister, Marilee Manning.

He is survived by his three children, Gary Manning of Sacramento, and Karen Manning and Donna Manning, both of Upper Lake; his five grandchildren, Dannette Hiatt, Clint Andregg, Jason Palmer, Chris Manning and Jessie Manning; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, David Manning.

Charles graduated from Upper Lake High School in 1952. He served as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force.

On April 2, 1957, he married Mary Cowper, and they raised their three children together.

Charles lived most of his life on Pitney Lane in Upper Lake. He owned and operated a walnut orchard for many years.

Charles was employed as the water master, and then a rural route carrier for the post office, until his retirement in 2001.

In 2004, Charles and Mary relocated to Dewey, Arizona. Mary always wanted to move back home. They resided there until Mary’s passing in 2012. Charles moved back to Pitney Lane soon after, and resided there until his passing.

Charles was well known and liked within the small community. He enjoyed his HO Train Set that he was forever working and adding on to. The train made both moves with him. It was one of his favorite hobbies, and he was quite proud of it.

He always kept himself busy, working on most things mechanical, and tinkering around his home. He could pretty much fix anything, and had a tool for it.

Charles was an honest, hard working family man. He will be missed by family and friends. Charles was able to meet all of his great-grandchildren before his passing.

Rest easy, Gramps. We know that you are back with Grams, where you belong.

A small service will be held at the Upper Lake Cemetery on Sept. 22 at 1 p.m., and a celebration of life at his home on Pitney Lane following. We ask that, in lieu of flowers, please donate to an animal shelter.
