NORTH COAST, Calif. – James “Red” Crandell passed away peacefully in the company of his beloved family on May 19, 2018.

Red Crandell had also served 16 years as a council member for the Hopland Band of Pomo Indians.

He spent a majority of his years as a beautician in the Bay Area. Red had a love for cars, jewelry, and had a reputation for his clothing style and grandiose charisma. He attended the Catholic Church as much as possible.

Red is survived by his children, James Crandell Jr., Susan Duncan, Evelyn “Louise” Crandell, Gwen Alvarado, Kyle Crandell and their spouses, Rose Crandell (James), Douglas Duncan (Susan), Mario Alvarado (Gwen) and Jackie Crandell (Kyle).

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Julian Crandell, Natè Duncan, Alena Crandell, Maria Alvarado, Shylah Alvarado, Dasan Duncan, Travis Duncan, Shanel Duncan, Fredrick Portillo, Dalina Duncan, Ledah Duncan-Quintanilla and Eddie Crandell Sr.

Red loved San Francisco and his favorite teams were the San Francisco Giants, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Golden State Warriors.

He is now with his beloved Joyce, family and friends as he will take his place amongst the ancestors in celebration.

Memorial services for Red will be held on Thursday, May 24, at the Hopland Gymnasium at 3000 Shanel Road. Services will start at 10 a.m.

He will be brought home to Hopland on Wednesday, May 23, to the Hopland Gymnasium at 3:30 p.m.
