LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Barry's long journey ended May 1, 2018. His health had been extremely compromised after a stroke in 2011.
He is survived by wife, Jan; sons, Ross and Grant (Ross and Grant's mother, Lee, passed away in 1982); step-children, Matthew and Stephanie; step-grandchildren, Parker and Reid; and sister, Heather. His father, Carroll, and mother, Gladys, predeceased him. Also surviving are numerous cousins, step-sisters, nieces and nephews.
He joined the Army, served in Vietnam and attended law school, graduating in 1972. He practiced law in Petaluma for 30 years.
He and Jan moved to Lakeport in 2002 where he opened another law office and continued to practice until 2011, driving his beloved 1968 MGB to the office everyday.
He was an active Rotarian in both communities, always appreciating the projects Rotary clubs embrace.
Barry mastered several hobbies, including becoming an avid sailor, winning many races with his trimaran in the Bay which included a favorite race in the trans-PAC to Hawaii.
He also loved to run, joining the Bay to Breakers in San Francisco for many years. He moved from sailing to biking and rode his bike throughout the countryside at least 100 miles a week.
His adventurous spirit sent him on many exotic trips worldwide, including rafting on the Amazon, traveling to Berlin where he came home with pieces of the Berlin Wall and Africa camping out with his boys at an animal sanctuary. His natural bright mind and unique personality always separated him from the crowd.
A private family gathering will be held, and the family requests any donations be made to the Clearlake Rotary Club, P.O. Box 549, Clearlake, Ca 95422.
