NICE, Calif. – James “Jim” Ray Weaver died peacefully at his home in Nice surrounded by his loving family on Dec. 19, 2017. He was 83 years.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jeanne Weaver; sister Pauline Hyland; and children, Donald Weaver, Randy Weaver, Michael Weaver, Kathy Johnson, Deborah Weaver and Robin Weaver. He had grandchildren and great grandchildren who will miss him tremendously. He is preceded in death by brother, Harold Brown of Sacramento, and sister, Martha Harris of Roseville.

Jim was born on Aug. 19, 1934, in Martinez to James and Berneda Weaver. He finished his education at Benicia High School in 1953, and began his apprenticeship at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Jim received his Certificate of Apprenticeship in 1957 and began his career as a pipefitter.

Jim married Jeanne, his high school sweetheart, in 1971. His children remember him as a loving and supportive father who encouraged them to stand up for what is right and to pursue their goals in life and all things family. Jim and Jeanne lived in Benicia for many years.

Jim served a long and distinguished career at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, where he was an accomplished pipefitter and later became the production superintendent for Pipe Shop 56. Jim had a passion for his work at Mare Island and often shared stories of this time with his family and friends.

Jim retired as the group superintendent in 1981 and began a second career in home construction with his nephew Mike Walker in Lower Lake, Calif.

After retiring from Mare Island, Jim and Jeanne moved to Nice in 1984, where they enjoyed many years on the beautiful Clear Lake.

Jim and Jeanne enjoyed time with family and friends on numerous camping, fishing and diving adventures. Jim loved the outdoors. He was also an active member of Moose Lodge 2284.

A celebration of life event will be held this spring in Benicia and will be announced at a later date. All will be welcome to attend and celebrate Jim's life.
