LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Donald E. Manning, age 77, passed away at his home in Kelseyville, Aug. 27, 2017.
He was born in Lake County Dec. 12, 1939, and spent the majority of his life in Kelseyville, where he attended local schools, graduating in 1957.
Don worked in the food industry for most of his life, starting at the local grocery when he was in high school.
Many will remember him from his many years at the Lakeport Safeway.
Don and Ethel were married April 25, 1998, on the Gaddy Ranch Swinging Bridge across Kelsey Creek. They continued to be active in the farming community, producing local honey and pears.
In his retirement, Don continued to farm pears on the O’Brien Ranch north of the Gaddy property.
He loved to garden, and early each spring, Don had his tomato plants ready to distribute to friends and neighbors long before most of them had thought about what variety to plant!
He was very knowledgeable in composting and prepared his garden to grow wonderful tomatoes and ambrosia melons that he shared with everyone.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel of Kelseyville; sons, Michael and Greg Manning of Clarksville, Tennessee; daughter, Kim Anglin (Chris) of Ashland, Oregon; sister, Karen Hukkanen (Harvey) of Medford, Oregon; brother, Kevin Sparks of Sacramento; and grandchildren, Jason Esser, Jeremy Manning, Ryan Manning, Courtney Bucolo and Christopher Anglin.
A graveside funeral service was held at Kelseyville Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 1, with Rev. Steve Nesheim officiating.
Donations in Don’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
