Robert Kelly

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Robert Lee Kelly, 69, passed away at home after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Born and raised in Woodside, Calif., Bob moved to Upper Lake in 1977 when he purchased acreage in Scotts Valley, Upper Lake, that would be known as Kelly's Kampground and RV Park for over 37 years.

He met his wife Patti that same year and they were married at the campground in 1979.

Bob operated the business until his illness in 2014.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Patti; his wonderful son, Matt; and his very caring mother-in-law Josephine Ortega and sister-in-law Pam Ortega.

At 6 feet 5 inches tall, Bob was an imposing man with a gentle spirit. He loved his beer, playing horseshoes, watching football, riding his ATV, and working on his property.

He loved people and he loved life. Many of his campers became lifelong friends, and many families made it a tradition to bring generations to camp at Kelly's. Many said he was “Kelly's Kamp” and couldn't imagine the park without him. We will miss his engaging stories and his larger-than-life presence.

“Good Night Sweetie, I Love You.”

We want to express our deepest gratitude to family and friends that offered support and encouragement during this most difficult time.

We are also grateful for the thoughtful care provided by Hospice and thereby request that in lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice Services of Lake County, 1862 Parallel Drive, Lakeport, CA 95453.

Bob requested there be no service.

Arrangements by Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, Lakeport (FD1336).
