LAKEPORT, Calif. – George “Ed” Neher passed away Nov. 24, 2014, at the age of 89.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilna.
He is survived by his daughters, Wendy (Alan) Freier and Jan (Duane) Frey; grandchildren, Kaytie (Keith) Brown, Curtis (Val) Freier, Jessica (Josh) Chernoh and Liza (Justin) Esayian; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Donna) Neher of Battleground, Wash.
He was proud of the service to his country in the Navy on the USS Marcus Island during World War II.
George retired from PG&E as general foreman at the age of 59. After retirement, he and Wilna traveled throughout the US and Baja California.
He was an outdoorsman who participated in all types of activities, including hunting, fishing, camping, riding his bike and shooting his blackpowder rifle at local rendezvous. He always enjoyed the annual hunting season and staying at his cabin at Paynes Creek.
An avid gardener, George provided vegetables and olives for family, friends and neighbors.
He served several years as fire commissioner for the Lakeport Fire Department and was Mason and member of the Clear Lake/Callayomi Lodge No. 183.
He is remembered as being honest, strong, determined and opinionated. You always knew where you stood with him.
At his request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, he requested contributions be made to the Lakeport Fire Department.
