Hutt: Thank you for your support of 'A Christmas Carol'

I would like to extend my sincere and heart felt thanks to the entire staff of the Soper-Reese Community Theatre (all of them volunteers), radio station KPFZ, the sponsors, and the cast and crew who helped me put on a most wonderful dramatic reading of "A Christmas Carol” on Dec. 19. Their dedication to this project led to a fine production and great enjoyment for the entire audience both at the theatre and wherever people were listening on their radios.

I wish to thank the sponsors: Live Oak Grill, Ear Mite Music, Rosa D'Oro Winery, Disney Awards and Trophies, Kelsey Creek Coffee Co., Park Place Restaurant and the Lake County Chamber of Commerce. Because of their very generous donations, "A Christmas Carol" was presented free of charge for anyone who wanted to see a live radio production, with sound effects done from the stage.

The superb cast was comprised of: Mary Howe, Hank Porter, Phil Mathewson, Eleanor Cook, Lourdes Thuesen, Xian Yeagen, Linda Gubert, Dennis Hall, Carrie Forno, Rod Rehe, Christine Hutt, Tim Williams, Susan Yeagen and William White. Their hard work and flexibility enabled them to cover several different voices during the broadcast.

The great sound crew was: Shawn Garrison, Mill Garrett, Matt Garrison, and Carole Cole Lewis. They stepped in at mostly the last minute and made the sound effects and music truly spectacular.

A special thanks goes out to Sandy Ciardelli of Sandy's Interiors and Vicki Deates for the excellent decorations to the stage and lobby.

And finally, a big thank you to the community who have supported all of our efforts at the Soper-Reese Theatre. Without your interest and attendance we could not have made this historic venue what it has come to be. We look forward to even bigger and better shows and events in the coming year. Stay tuned and visit our Web site, www.SoperReeseTheatre.com .

Thank you, Lake County!

Bert Hutt is producing director of “A Christmas Carol” and artistic director of the Soper-Reese Community Theatre.

Lake County Office of Education’s Healthy Start program and Kelseyville Schools would like to thank the many organizations and individuals who helped to make the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays special for a large number of our families in Kelseyville.

Donations from many individuals and organizations remind us again of the incredible generosity and support our community shows to its families.

We wish to especially thank Diana Dixon, Julie Kimelman, Beta Sigma Phi, Kelseyville Volunteer Firefighters, the Unitarian Universalist Community of Lake County, Clear Lake Performing Arts,  Kelseyville 4-H, Tootsie Huggins, Galilee Lutheran Church, Kelseyville Lioness Club, Kelseyville Lumber and the Kelseyville Elementary Drug Free Club.

Also, we thank Congressman Mike Thompson for the Toys 4 Kids party and gifts. Richmond Park Bar & Grill provided a very large number of shoes and coupons for shoes from their New Shoes for Kids Party.

We wish to thank everyone for the thoughtful contributions which remind us all of the strength and value of community.

Taylor: Lakeport officers respond to letter over debate

It has come to the attention of the Lakeport Police Officers Association (LPOA) that at least one political candidate who was invited to the Lake County Law Enforcement Candidates Night has raised concern about this event not being open to the public. It is the position of the LPOA that it is proper for this event to be closed to the public. To explain our position I would like to let some things be known about how and why this event was planned.

Several of the Lake County law enforcement associations were individually approached by candidates for sheriff and district attorney. Those candidates requested to address the associations during association meetings with the desire to solicit a political endorsement.

Realizing that it is common for political candidates running for the offices of sheriff and district attorney to ask for a political endorsement from all of the county’s law enforcement groups, we joined together to create a group association meeting that would streamline the endorsement request process. This event will be focused on the issues most important to people employed in the law enforcement field in Lake County, so the candidates' comments will be specific to the group.

The LPOA is proud to be working with the other law enforcement associations in Lake County to produce a venue which will create a fair environment for candidates to solicit the associations for their individual support.

Norman Taylor is president of the Lakeport Police Officers Association.
