Music and fun at upcoming Day in the Park at Anderson Marsh State Park

ANDERSON MARSH – Anderson Marsh Interpretive Association (AMIA), the cooperating association for Anderson Marsh State Historic Park is planning a day of family fun on Saturday, May 22, at the park.


Anderson Marsh is located on Highway 53 between Clearlake and Lower Lake; plan to attend to enjoy music, support teachers and students, visit the historic ranch house and more.


The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a nature walk scheduled for 8 a.m.


Dr. Harry Lyons will lead a guided nature walk beginning at 8 a.m. Meet at the front parking lot of Anderson Marsh State Park; bring water and wear appropriate walking shoes.


Music will be provided by popular local musicians: Tom Nixon, Uncorked, Blue Collar, 3 Deep, Dennis Purcell, Don Coffin and his mandolin and mandola students, the Cobb Stompers, Blue Collar Band, Michael Barrish, Blue Moon, and Alan Markowski and Barbara Jo Bloomquist.


AMIA will provide tours of the historic Ranch House.


The Children’s Museum of Art’s and Science will coordinate old-fashioned games for kids such as sack and wheel barrow races.


Teachers and students will be selling crafts, products and food to earn money for field trips and special events. “You will experience all levels and grades highlighting their individual talents –from kindergarten to 12th grade,” an AMIA spokesperson noted.


The Career Tech. Pathway Program at Lower Lake High School will feature delicious food from their Culinary Program. The Welding Programs will offer hand- made products for the most selective shoppers. The Automotive Pathway and Construction Pathway will raffle oil changes and a $100 Mendo Mill gift certificate donated by Northcoast Builder’s Exchange.


All proceeds from services, crafts and food sales will directly benefit the individual classrooms. “AMIA is proud to support outdoor education at Anderson Marsh State Historic Park and we are excited to participate with schools in this wonderful hometown event. Anderson Marsh is the ideal outdoor educational classroom and it is also a great place for community to come together and spend a beautiful day at the park,” one of the organizers of the event said.


Sorry, no pets or alcohol allowed. BYO lawn chair or blanket! Seating is not provided. The Lower Lake Culinary program will have drinks and food available at reasonable prices. Other classrooms will have a variety of snacks, sodas, lemonade and ice tea at minimal cost. Adults 18 and over please pay $2 at the gate; under 18 and over 65 are free.
