NICE – A sunrise ceremony to honor the victims of the Bloody Island Massacre will be held on Saturday, May 15.
The ceremony will be held on Reclamation Road. The turnoff is near the Bloody Island historic marker along Highway 20.
The 1850 massacre was carried out by the US Army in retaliation for the murder of Andrew Kelsey and Charles Stone.
Accounts vary as to the number of dead, ranging between 60 and up to 400.
